392. Will I ever get away from the Towpath
After a night of heavy rain, I wake to more rainfall but by late afternoon it’s stopped, and I attempt to return to my home mooring at Yelvertoft Marina. However, the wind has other ideas and keeps me pinned to the side of the towpath. This is a cruise on the Leicester Line Summit of the Grand Union Canal.

Best bet Alan, in situations like that, is to pivot your bow into the bank which will swing your stern out into deep water. Once your stern is in the middle of the channel you should easily have enough room to swing your bow round and move forward away from the bank. Have a lovely Easter!

Hi Jan and Tony, happy Easter, have a great time. Thanks for the suggestion but I doubt that would have worked in this instance, given the strength of the wind. All the best.
Thanks Alan, for taking us along on this short cruise adventure, it looked really difficult getting away from the mooring with the cover up which would act as a sail. I must say that you did a fantastic job of turning "Lazy Daze" at the winding hole on the last vlog. Have a lovely Easter weekend. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Thank you Stevie. The canopy wouldn’t have helped but it was open all the way around. I was pleased with the turn, one of my best but not central to the winding hole recess because of the moored boat. Have a great Easter and take care.
Hi Alan, gosh, that was a job to get off the mooring against that wind! But you managed it! I've enjoyed this series of cruising. I have to say, I have missed it. Take care xx

Hi Jenny, it was hard work but perseverance paid off in the end. It was the first opportunity to get out and cruise and I’m looking forward to further cruises. All the best, take care xx
Hi Alan, I came down from north kilworth to crick today, the wind was definitely not helping! Sometimes it's easier to reverse off the armco and then set off I have found. Happy cruising!

Hi. Sorry to hear you had a difficult cruise today. I agree with your suggestion but that didn’t work, it’s something I often do depending on the circumstances. Cheers, enjoy your Easter cruising.
Great video Alan as always, all things done with that great smile of yours, have great Easter x

Many thanks Sandy, you too have a wonderful Easter 🐣x
Nice vlog Alan we've only owned Grp cruisers so I can sympathise with your struggle to get off the bank it reminded me when we use to moor at Burton Waters on the Witham the river could be like a millpond and inside the marina like the North Sea, On a different subject my wife called me in last week to show me you on an old Railway journey with Michael Portilo at Westzoyland very photogenic. Lol take care best wishes Rob.😊

Thank you Robert. You understand the difficulty I was having but I needed to get back, so was determined to get off the towpath. The Great British Railways episode does pop up now and again, I think I’ve only seen it repeated once though. All the best, hope you both have a great Easter🐣
Hello Alan mick from Hull another lovely episode really enjoyed it hope you are well and I will look forward to your next episode 😊😊😊

It certainly was but I was determined to move off and get back to the Marina. You too have a great Easter, all the best.
That was a bit tricky getting off the bank Alan. You kept your head and figured it out though 👍I was thinking the marina was going to be really difficult as it’s a bit open to the elements, but you done a great job of getting onto the pontoon. Hope you’ve had a great Easter, take care 👍

Hi Paul. It was certainly very troublesome getting away from the towpath. The pontoon looked easy because of the way I edited the footage 😀. Thanks for watching and commenting. Had a great Easter thanks, hope you did. All the best🤠
For a moment there, I thought you would give up and tie back up to settle with a cuppa T and a cheese roll, but no! Not Alan. He keeps going with determination and patience. Can't wait for the next instalment. See you soon. Take care.

That’s a very interesting stern on the boat by skew bridge Alan. You could do with a bow thruster in the windy conditions haha.

It's an inspection launch, as well as a tiller, it also has a steering wheel inside. Looks odd when you see it moving with no-one on the back. I don't need anything else to go wrong on the boat, thank you te he!

You as well Alan.
Afternoon Alan, that was great to watch. I vividly remember leaving Heyford Fields Marina one day, pushing the bow around to the right, toward Gayton junction and getting pinned fast to the armco outside the Marina as the wind pushed the boat tight to the bank as we made the turn. Took much pushing to get us free, and that was with 2 on board, where you had to do it single handed. Have really enjoyed watching your mini series...thank you for sharing...🍷🍷

Hi Steve, it is tricky by yourself but even with two, the boat would still push back against the armco. Thanks for watching and commenting, glad you enjoyed the series. Have a great Easter.
Thank you for more great cruising! I really enjoy all of your vlogs, sir.

That’s very kind of you to say Andy, thank you so much.
Greetings Alan. Getting off the Armco and heading for the jetty reminded me of Adge Cutler's song" Thees got' en where thee cass'ent backe en" assent" (Don't ask me why I know this song). Really god that you could rely on keeping the pram hood up even for a short distance. Welcome home to shore Boatman. Have a good Easter. Best to Sally and yourself. Bob and Helen.

You wouldn't think that the Wind would have such an affect on a heavy steel boat but you handled things well. All the best Alan. Bye for now. Stephen
