They survive because their low axle loading means they can go anywhere. There's no replacement with the same power for the same axle load.

You are, by far, the best at this art form. The compositions, perspectives, lighting are always masterful. But above all the glorious SOUND.

Awesome video! Fantadtic diesels...Love the sounds. Curious types of "wagons" (I'm from the states and so accustomed to CSX, NS etc, but really enjoy UK rail...)

Thanks for your comment. The wagons only get used during the Autumn - they spray high pressure water at the rails which removes the residue which builds up on the rails during this time of year and causes problems with the trains suffering low adhesion and sliding on the rails.

@tutankahmun thanks for the info; an interesting MOW consist. Thought it could have been some high value/risk cargo (hence nuke waste casks, extra volatile chemicals etc, especially with power on both ends) 😎👍

Thanks Mike for taking the time to capture these. Just one question. To get the sound so good when the 37's are in the distance do you use an external microphone, if so what brand, or just stick with the camera's internal one. I've tried an external but still can't get the distant sounds very loud like you have. Thanks.

@@AndreA-ke2id no worries, yes I use an external microphone, it's a Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro. I use a Panasonic HC-VX870 camera which has a shoe fitting which the external mic slots onto. I've tried a few external microphones and have had the same problems you've had with sound. The current Rode one seems to be the best one so far.

Can anyone tell exactly what this train is doing? It always seems the same layout with only 5 wagons plus a another and another tractor unit at the back..Thanks.( I should read all the other comments!! Track cleaning, yes)

Is the Beverley stop routine? I've only seen them passing straight through.

  • @tutankahmun

No it's not booked to stop there. It depends on how things are running on the night - if it's close behind the preceding service then it stops for about 5 minutes or so waiting for the preceding service to get to Driffield (which is the next signal section). If everything is running as booked though the train is booked to pass Beverley without stopping.
