So much of this resonates with me. I discovered minimalism in 2014 and it was as if something 'clicked'. But that journey really accelerated when I moved overseas for work. I took two suitcases and a box of books and papers. And I didn't miss anything I left behind (which I sold or donated). It was liberating. It allowed me to inhabit the wisdom that Henry David Thoreau wrote about-- "It is desirable that a man live in all respects so compactly and preparedly that, if an enemy take the town, he can, like the old philosopher, walk out the gate empty-handed without anxiety.' Or, rather less dramatically, to tread more lightly in the world and to be refreshed by so doing. I have more now, but I am not attached to it. I wish I had discovered minimalism at your age!

Thank you so much! For me it was exactly the same, something just "clicked" when I heard the reasoning that buying less means keeping more of your money, and I had never heard it put that way and it very much resonated with me. I love Thoreau's Walden, I think it's a fantastic book that everyone (especially in our capitalist fast-paced society) should read.

Oh thank you so much! Currently thinking of getting rid of also the sofa… 😂 I have actually started using a desktop computer for this, since the screen is big enough to be a tv and I work during the day. So dual purpose. Maybe that’s an idea? 😍 I also love documentaries.

I am currently getting rid of a lot of my belonging, because my partner and I have huge travel plans and we don't want to pay too much for storage while we're away. Yesterday I sold a cupboard, which triggered a huge anxiety attack, it was overwhelming. But watching your videos helps a lot - both because I see that it is not the physical belongings that cause happiness and also because I really like listening to your voice. It is very calming to me. Thank you! :-) Your apartment is amazing, I love that it is so close to the ocean and has all the beautiful palm trees around it! Greetings from Austria!

Hi Martina! Oh I love Austria! Good luck with your travels and I can understand getting rid of things can be stressful, but remember you can always buy new things. I really like this one book “in love with the world” about a monk who left his high status life and wondered through India. It really grounds me when I feel like I want things, and reminds me how great it is to live with less. Thank you! ❤️
