365 grateful project | Hailey Bartholomew | TEDxQUT

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Hailey Bartholomew found the secret to happiness. After struggling to enjoy and appreciate all of the great things in her life she set our on a year long photography project to find gratitude everyday. In this funny and moving talk see what lessons we can all learn from her experience.
Hailey can lay claim to the titles of photographer, author, director, social commentator and artist. The owner and creative director of her own business, she has clients than span the globe as a photographer and as a director. She has published two books so far in her career, and directed television commercials and visual presentations for major national brands and charities. But within this eclectic, and brilliant appetite for creative realization, Hailey’s favored passion is documentary film making. Hailey has a beautiful visual style and sensitivity with her subjects, perfect for allowing a story to evolve and flourish on film and in photographs. Hailey will be joining TEDxQUT to share her experiences with the transformative power of gratitude and the 365 grateful project.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I keep coming back to this TedTalk in particular because I find it gratifying to see others learning how to be happy, and teaching others how to be happy.

Wow, this whole video cuts really deep inside me, especially the husbands answer "I feel that I'm enough for her now". It's is so recognizable: it's all there, right in front of you... and you simply don't see it, don't notice it! And therefore you can't appreciate it!!! Thank you so, so very much Hailey for sharing your experience with us. This means so much to me (maybe also because I have a daughter named Haley, meant to be?). This is a real eye-opener!!!!

It was brilliant to listen to this TED talk. I think the life we are all living in we must try this kind of project. I mean how beautiful it is to see your life so closely and be grateful for what we have. I am not a kind of a person who takes photos that often but I just realize why not. From now onwards I'll try to capture all those beautiful moments that make me happy and grateful.

I have been feeling kind of loss, looking for something to be grateful about it but I have been having a hard time feeling truly grateful. I have been listening to various talks looking for something/anything to truly connect with but nothing. This video put tears in my eyes. First of all, I can relate to her when she says, "...I know I should be grateful but I just don't feel anything..." Like Hailey, I want to find something deeper to be grateful about. Her talk make me feel so much better and I'm excited to start my own 10-day project. Thank you Hailey for sharing your story, your passion and your life with us. Cheers to many more beautiful moments.

I'm going through the toughest time of my life and feeling lost as well. I continue finding myself feeling overwhelmingly sad. After watching a few of these Ted talks, I decided I'm going to be happy and start my own gratitude project. I think I'm just going to take time every single day to step back and reflect on what I'm grateful for. I hope your journey is going well.

Same fact is said in the quran 1400 years ago. Allah says be grateful i will give you all things. Infact after every prayer we say "alhamdulillah" an Arabic word thanking Allah says the one an only for giving us so many blessings in our life. We say it 33 times and each time we say it we are supposed to feel a thing in your life which you are thankful for. So we pray 5 times a day andafter every prayer we say 33times. So for a day we Muslims are supposed to feel thankful for 165 times.

I'm sure that Catholic Nun would agree that the one thing we should be the most grateful for is the love of God. It seems fine and well to be mindful and appreciate everything else, but leaving out God among all things would be to be missing the bigger picture.

Hi, I am Hailey's daughter and she never said she didn't respect my father, she merely said that she didn't notice all the things he was doing. My father is quite a subtle person and I can understand how things he does that are really quite beautiful could be lost to the average person. For your information, my father continues to do lovely things for my Mum and she notices and respects and loves him very much. I am very blessed to have such close in-love parents as I do. This project really did change my entire family for the better and perhaps if you hadn't been so quick to judge my mother for your assumptions maybe it would brighten and inspire you a bit too. xx Poppy Bartholomew
