361/365 DOUGIE MacLEAN - PERTHSHIRE AMBER (4TH MOVEMENT edit) (2000)

With Christmas now firmly behind us, the thoughts of many will start to turn towards the forthcoming New year celebrations. Here in the UK these are particularly treasured in Scotland, who even get an extra day’s public holiday, perhaps to recover from exuberant excesses.
It’s also the period where music that wouldn’t be generally listened to at any other time of the year receives greater TV and radio exposure, so I’m going let some of those less popular genres enjoy their place in the winter sun here.
Today’s choice is Perthshire Amber (4th Movement) by Scottish folk musician, composer and vocalist Dougie MacLean who has been playing his mandolin and fiddle since he first came to prominence in the late 1970s. More than thirty albums in his back catalogue is testament to both his appeal and longevity and this inspiring track from the 2000album of the same name is a homage to the area he was born and raised in.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
