36 people injured after turbulence rocks Hawaiian Airlines flight | USA TODAY

Severe turbulence rocked a flight from Phoenix to Honolulu Sunday, injuring 36 people in what an Hawaiian Airlines official called an unusual event.
RELATED: Pilot ejects from F-35 fighter jet after crash landing in Texas bit.ly/3G4W4sU
Patients suffered cuts, including to the head, as well as bumps and bruises. Some people were nauseous and vomited as a result of extreme motion. “We are also very happy and we feel fortunate that there were not any deaths or other critical injuries. And we’re also very hopeful that all will recover and make a full recovery,” Ireland said. Jon Snook, the airline's chief operating officer, said three flight attendants were among those taken to hospitals.
Passenger Kaylee Reyes told Hawaii News Now that her mother had just sat down when the turbulence hit and did not have a chance to buckle her safety belt. “She flew up and hit the ceiling,” Reyes said.
Snook said there was some internal damage to the aircraft during the turbulence. The seatbelt sign was on at the time, though some of those injured weren't wearing them, he said.

I hate when they say that. Mostly because I am an older eye surgeon! The airlines actually compensates those that help. I was not so sure I made the right decision once to give the go ahead to take off when this younger adult continued to spray vomit all over the place, frequently. We were leaving Cancun so I figured he drank too much but would get it out of his system quickly. Well did did and did’nt

Classic PANIC situation. You're riding the safest mode of transportation, the world over. Enjoy bring more at risk driving your car. But that being said.... the air traffic controller should have notified that aircraft of the turbulence. IF the ATC didn't notify that aircraft, be glad your situation, probably did save someone else's life, while in the meantime your pilot's saved yours.

Turbulence can be very scary, but people would be surprised at how much stress the wings and body of a modern airline can withstand. They are designed for this. One pilot said think about the worst rollercoaster ride you’ve ever been on, and times that by 100. That’s how much turbulence these machines can take.
