I once watched an air ambulance come in to land on a freeway after a HORRIFIC wreck. Raining, winds gusting 50+, trees at the edge of the right of way on both sides. This pilot came in, circled twice, and set it down like it was a calm day. Truly AWESOME skills there!!

Yeah, he needed to really mind his situational awareness on that landing. He only had about 15-20 feet on his right side before that lamp post and fuel tank. A big gust of wind from his left right before touchdown could have turned that into a really bad day

I used to live high up in a condo building, and could look down at a rooftop helipad for a children's hospital in the middle of a busy city. Every day where was a helicopter landing, and it was always seriously impressive. Medical, of course, has its own challenges over and above the usual helicopter aviation. Cheers to the pilots and everyone else involved. The rest of us are lucky to have these people around.

Wrong times two. 1. The little c captain was completely over the top with his "help". All of the non pilots are so jazzed about how quickly he jumped on the throttles so quickly. Yet while he was jumping the gun doing that he missed the First Officers call for Flaps 20, which is the FIRST thing he's supposed to do on a G/A. The is no rush to jam in the throttles like that, particularly if the First Officer already selected TOGA on the throttle switch. If you watch carefully, the FO is selecting TOGA as the captain is jamming in max (or nearly so) thrust. The Auto Throttles are already commanding a programmed amount of thrust for the GA. Besides, the airplane only requires a half a shove to get it flying. Adding too much thrust in a Go Around is a sure way to screw things up. Since he took so long to call positive rate, the gear speed is possibly an issue as are the Flap speeds. Plus, underslung engines produce a lot of pitch up moment and this can really get you in a tight box, particularly with a low altitude level off. He was too busy on the tower frequency. There is no rush to call the tower. The rule is Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. And there is no reason to shout like he was doing. It's distracting and raises the tension in the cockpit for absolutely no reason. And this was not a sim. I won't even address his hand being all over the yoke for all of it. @@boringpolitician

I may be saying something stupid, but please correct me if I'm wrong. The captain of the Boeing 747-400F who performed the go around, from what I saw, is clearly the PF (Pilot Flying) and the first officer is the PM (Pilot Monitoring). However, after the call to perform the go around by ATC, the captain proceeded to go around, as well as retracting the flaps and landing gear. In this situation, these last two tasks should have been performed by the first officer, right? It's just a small detail, but now I'm curious...

To me it looks like the the FO is pf. The captain says "positive rate" and waits for the pf to reply "gear up".

A380 wake turbulence is way underestimated. In the early days of the 380 we had a 767 14NM behind one on approach and the pilot had to pull out of the approach because he was being tossed around too much.

Maybe there needs to be more time between take-offs when A380's are taking off one after the other so the air turbulence has time to dissipate. Plus, what it was a smaller aircraft taking off after the first A380?

can some sensor looks miles ahead and prepare the craft for turbulence, shouldn't be too hard, over a safe place like sea or desert, it could even shoot a conical ice structure that rapidly vaporizes

Shout out to LA Flights Live, and Peter the host....the home of the 'One more plane'. That A380 wake turbulence was impressive, but there was a similar situation on the same stream a few months back that had the second A380 rocking back and forth several times! It was truly wild. As a Paying member of LA Flights live, I invite you to come and hang with Peter (the amazing host) and the rest of us from LAX, and several times a month SFO. Streams are Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays....with surprise streams thrown in. Thanks for reading this....hope to see you there!
