358/365 MIKE OLDFIELD - SILENT NIGHT (1992)

During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Christmas Eve sees the start of my Festive Season, so for the next week I’m going to be uploading my selection of songs that I think are appropriate for this time of the year.
Today’s choice is Silent Night by Mike Oldfield which, although it’s an instrumental version, is as beautiful a recording of this Christmas classic as you could possibly hope to find. First released in December 1992 as the B-side of his “Tattoo” single which reached no. 33 in the UK singles chart, it was a non-album track and therefore was something of a rarity until 2015 when it was included on “The Best Of : 1992-2003” compilation album.
Tomorrow is traditionally a family day so I appreciate that you may be otherwise occupied, but hopefully you’ll have time to visit to see which song is my Christmas Day upload. Will it be Bing’s “White Christmas”, or Greg Lake’s “I Believe In Father Christmas”, or perhaps something else altogether? See you tomorrow if you want to find out.
