Probably had an auxiliary trans in it. Possibly a Watson M3 or M4 series or maybe a spicer 6041. So with the main 3 gears multiplied by 3 on th M3 series would make it a 9 speed and 3 main multipled by 4 for on a 6041 or a M4 series would make it a 12 speed

Yeah. My dad had a 77 Chevy 1/2 ton Bananza it was a 454 with cherry bombs. That son of a bitch was loud.

That is by far the most bad ass sounding truck I ever heard. Just like the Maximum Overdrive toy truck

All the detroits sounds amazing straight piped. I could fall asleep listening to 671s in the ol gm buses. Reminds me of being a child sleeping on the bus

neighbor put one of those in a 50 something chevy pickup when I was a kid and you could hear him coming, no joke, 2 miles away at least.

That awkward moment you hear a yeti down the road... and realize it comes from a 3 banger Detroit. x'D

Growing up in the early 60's I used to run down the alley to try and catch a glimpse of a 1950's GMC 650 single-axle dump truck as it approached a main thoroughfare. When all was clear, the driver would go thru the gears with what I believe was a 4-71 DD. It used to give me goosebumps.

OMG that is BEAUTIFUL! I have a 3-53N and I have a 1958 Chevy Apache. I was thinking of putting the 3-53 in the truck but I wasn't sure if it would be cool enough. But after seeing this, I really want to do it. Thanks for posting this!

***** Actually what recharges the cylinders with fresh air and evacuates exhaust is more comparable to a super charger and these engines can not run without it but they can run without a turbo.

+Sumpanzer Old Detroits ran superchargers. Because they were two stroke they didn't make enough pressure to run without it. Turbo charging was optional. Their superchargers were adapted for use on gasoline engines, and that's where the 4-71, 6-71, and 8-71 blowers used in drag racing came from.

Worked with a Fleet of Relief Ships out of Lake Charles,LA. Had an old Uniflite 26 Motor Cargo Boat with a 3-53. I would take Crew out for "Nature Tours" on The Calcasieu River. No Wildlife found...... Earplugs optional. Love the Ring of Detroit Diesels, I can tell one if it is on land or sea. Long Live Detroit Diesel !

I use to drive a semi truck and the jake brakes that were that loud ......that cured me for loud exhaust after driving that all day in the hills of Pennsylvania and West Virginia 😎

Just had a flashback to Ft Bragg, Nc in the 80's. The Gamma goats had 2 stroke gmc engines. You could hear them miles away.

a little more back pressure might tame the popping.......remember that most two-stroke bikes had an expansion chamber and a stinger to tune for power........you wouldn't want to try to get that fancy, but a little restriction probably wouldn't hurt the sound much.....love the truck!!!

It's chilling and monstrous and raw but I think with some refinery of the exhaust the scream would come through better over the ricer like reverberation.

It's not loud enough... but damn I love Detroit engines. As far as my childhood, 6v92 was the last good one but the Series 50, 50-EGR, 50G, and 60 are still my everlasting continuation compare to the DD13 - I have yet to hear.

It'll stay shut if you have the door knob pointing forwards but to fix it easly is replace both springs

That is exactly what my 52 looks like. I have a 235 straight six. mine's pretty original, but i have disk brakes and a vacuum assist dual rochester single barrels, and split manifold, glass packs.. thanks for posting. i don't do body work either. It's a work truck goddammit. the 353 detroit makes me jealous, but i'll stick with my 235, it's cool enough for this poor sinner.

I got one of those straight through racing mufflers for A 4" exhaust pipe. I am not sure it made the exhaust quieter but it is "legal" now. I have to wear earplugs when I drive mine, so loud on the freeway 🔥

All I can say is WOW! I love it.

Revisiting this video, I would have to say that this N/A 353 sounds better than my 453T. The turbo muffles the individual exhaust pulses. That blat, blat, blat of the unmuffled N/A exhaust pulses at 2,800 rpm is what makes a screamin' Jimmy a screamin' Jimmy! My dad was a mechanic at Cummins his entire career. And back in the 70's his favorite saying is that What Detroits are best at is turning diesel into noise and black smoke! 😂😂😂

I just love how the door swings open as he makes the corner LMAO!!. Reminds me when i used to go with my step dad. Blue Freightliner. I called it the blue turd. The door would always open up when we were heading down the highway. I would always have to slam the fuck out of it to stay closed. I would even have to roll the window down so i could slam it harder.
