Welcome home, friend. As a native Texan, I am jealous. I was here when I first drew breath...you made a choice, and got the thrill of discovery. Doubly Texan and doubly blessed.

@@DonaldSFrazier wow thank you sir ! I have been learning about the Comanches and Texas rangers on my drives back and forth. I've so far spent time in San Antonio (shertz and universal city specifically), Houston for about five weeks, the area you folks call the hill country and am settling somewhere in the outskirts of Austin. Many a Texan have said to me " Mike, are you sure your not from Texas?" To which I reply : "No, Im fairly confident of the location where I exited my mothers womb" Good laughs all around. And you people are so kind I've left bars, actually making money( or at least drink tokens from all the rounds people will buy) Again thank you for all the kind words

I am from Texas and my mom's side of the family settled in Henderson County in 1846.They were late comer's to say the least. My Dad's great grandfather left western Louisiana in 1834 and went to Mexican Texas. This video should have been dated for the early 1860's.It was then that the master's wives would have more to do with the running of the farms.lf they owned slaves,lt wasn't all ease and comfort. For to keep a farm working,a strong will to survive the elements and a stern lookout for the Comanche living west of the Trinity River. My moms side of the family did own slaves generations before ever migrated to Texas from Southwest Virginia. I don't condone slavery, and l will never apologize for my ancestors actions. That was then, and you don't whitewash history in any way, shape, form or fashion.

I've watched this video a couple times now and found it very perceptive. I think that there is a lot to be said about the extent to which women drove the slave system and Civil War. When one looks at how many hours of work were required to simply washing clothing, a massive motivation for slavery is uncovered.

That's no motivation. Most whites couldn't even afford slaves. Only a small number of Texans owned slaves.. the ones that didnt and were aged 18-35, were the ones that were drafted and sent off to die for the rich slave owners. If you had 20 or more slaves, you were automatically exempt from service. If you could pay $500, you could avoid the draft that way. The majority of men were poor and could not afford to dodge the draft or pay the draft fee. So the average white lady washed her own clothes and her family's. Washing machines have made people lazy. The idea of hand washing clothes justifies slavery in your opinion? You're a dumbass. Theres no excuse for a person owning another person.. at all. We, as a nation, need to quit apologizing for what our ancestors may or may not have done, throw the bible and any other religious doctrine that supports slavery away, and move forward. Its important to learn about history, though, so that we dont make similar mistakes in the present and future. But you should delete that stupid ass comment. Hand washing clothes does NOT justify slavery.. smh.

My ancestors migrated to Wise county from Mississippi in the 1860s. A few brothers and their families wound up there. My great grandfather moved to Oklahoma after marrying in 1894. Speaking of the women ,I think my gg grandmother was a dominate force in the marriage . Many of her children were named after her side of the family and there is documentation of a land transaction between her and her father in law in 1849

1860s is more interesting. Especially around the time the civil war was going on and directly before and after. I'm about to write a Novel that takes place starting in 1863 and ending sometime around 1870. That was directly after the Great hanging of Gainesville. My hometown. I also know there was a big indian raid in December 1863. I'm going to start it there. It's going to take a lot of research though. I dont want to half ass it. I want it to feel like you're there.
