Not that I had much hope for this remake to begin with but hearing this has completely killed any hope I had for it. Once again 343 has proven they never deserved Halo, the inheritance of the mantle of responsibility for all of Halo was never meant for them, it seems fans will have to remake Halo ourselves. Madders are already remaking Halo CE, perhaps with the right assets from the SlipSpace engine or even Unreal we can simply remake all Bungie era games and continue the story from where they left of ourselves and do better.

Both sold off to different companies where they've been completely ruined beyond repair, awful streaming shows, uninspired sequels that fail to capture what made the originals beloved, insulting the fans, Spartans and Jedi used to be rare but now everyone can be one apparently, behind the scenes footage of both franchises from 15-20 years ago showed the passion the people working on it had which we don't get anymore, and both have become completely oversaturated and dare I say sabotaged into the ground.

While I'm sure some Bungie (current or former) employees like Joe Staten would love to work on Halo again, much of the reason Bungie sold Halo to Microsoft was because they did not want to keep making it. They were sick of it, especially after Halo 2's development hell. IF they were going to give Halo to anyone, I'd rather it be Certain Affinity which are primarily made up of former Bungie employees that worked on Halo. But that being said, I'd rather Mircosoft end Halo for a little while. As much as I love it, nothing will compared to the first 5 games and how cohesive and well written the story was. I'm just so done with the franchise after 343's butchering of it.

Because Bungie would NEVER help them even if they could. The whole reason for the hostility in the first place is because Bungie wanted to put the series to rest and Microsoft just straight up said "Nope." and created 343i, and since it's technically Microsoft who owns the IP, Bungie quitting means anything Halo is no longer able to be touched by Bungie. 343i is literally a company created to spite Bungie, it's a miracle they had as many past Halo devs in 343i as the did in they first place.

But seeing that the old, petty bad blood for the old bungie team still remain is making me wonder if the 343 curse is just stuck there. (I mean, they literally named 343 after the character that betrays Master Chief in CE). I really like the idea of Microsoft putting together a team of the old Bungie guys. We've been saying for a while that the Halo IP needs to be shared across studios now since 343 has been constantly making missteps for over a decade, so why not let them have their own side project? They could make a Halo: ODST 2. The ODST's have been gone long unloved and never properly utilized under 343, so if the ex-Bungie guys wanted a crack at it, I say let them.

I confronted them about it, and threatened them with police action (I can show you screenshots from my ticket to back this up). Things have changed now in their communications with me, but there were actual trash cans working at the company who hurt their ability to hire people. There was bad leadership at the company, but the badness percolated down to the rank and file. They are no doubt struggling to hire competent talent with this kind of attitude. People should know this. For what it's worth, having new people work on the next game is probably not a bad idea anyway. Look at the 2016 and later Dooms for a good example of how it can work out.

Just about all of them are either working at other studios, retired, or have been burned, lied to, and spat on by 343 too much they no longer care to interact with them even for a minute. 343 has made a very calculated and concerted effort to make the Bungie devs who worked on Halo to know that they are not welcome to work on Halo anymore. For something like this to happen Microsoft would have to do some insane leg work to fix the burned and mangled bridges that 343 destroyed.

Something to note is that 343 answers directly to MS. If MS doesn't want 343 to do something, they won't do it, no questions asked. Back in the day, MS would suggest or demand stuff for Halo, and Bungie would fight back. I'm willing to bet that, even if some people at 343 wanted to hire ex-Bungie devs, MS told them no. MS wants a bunch of yes-men, and they know they won't get that with most ex-Bungie devs. I mean think about it, 343 did have ex-Bungie devs at the studio at one point. Hell, Frank O'Connor was ex-Bungie, and he was one of the top dogs at the studio. Why, because he was a yes-man. Some things have changed since the Halo 4 days though. The 343 of today is a completely different studio from the 343 of the Halo 4 or Halo 5 days. Using the "we hired people who don't like Halo" quote these days seems silly when basically none of the people who said/enforced that still work at the studio. If you want to get mad at a company, start pointing the blame at MS. They never understood Halo from the start, and instead of admitting that and letting Bungie/343 make a good Halo game, they'd rather let the franchise fall into irrelevancy.

They need to stop rewriting or reinventing the wheel with Halo and just start dishing out Halo games every year. They need more studios instead of having so much contracting temp hires. Social politics is running the Halo franchise into the ground. All these awareness months/holidays and other factors like not being rated M for Mature anymore is really damaging aswell as the free to play live service model. They also said that the guns in Halo rarely ever make them uneasy, which makes this whole discussion seem kinda questionable to me. I especially empathise with the dev in question if they're American, considerinbg mass shootings and gun violence are hugely rampant here. As far as the "just work on the games that don't include guns" point, it unfortunatly isn't as easy as that from what I'm aware of. There are a ton of people looking for work in game development right now, and it's unfortunatly become a bit of a "get what you can get" situation for most at the moment. Perhaps Halo isn't the ideal project the dev would want, but they would likely rather have a project they're iffy on then none at all. I'm a largely a pro gun dude, but I can't help but shake that this is largely a non-issue where most of the people who are upset are upset for largely political reasons.Disagreements are all fine, but the Halo fanbase hardly needs any more reasons for outside people to see us as toxic assholes. TL;DR, Who cares? Their opinion probably isn't hurting anything if they're just a grunt worker, don't harrass devs over for small political issues.

The people working on Halo need to be passionate about everything going into the game. The way people at id are passionate about doom, the way people at infinity war are passionate about modern warfare, and the way old school bungie was passionate about halo.

Not a defense of 343, but, there isn't a need for bungie devs. The Halo "feel" is already there to copy in the first 3 games. Kelly Gay could honestly be on the writing team for the games, and I'd be perfectly happy because she seems to have the perfect grasp on what makes the halo story great. Plus, having an ex bungie dev doesn't suddenly mean the game will be good. Thats such a ridiculous oversimplification. Reach was much worse than halo 3 imo. Even legendary developers make shit games. Shinji Mikami is a great example of this. If 343 is truly anti bungie devs, that dumb, but it's literally the flip side of halo MUST have bungie devs to be good at all. Both are ridiculous positions.

I'm just about done with Halo as a videogame. I'm still here to casually play with friends when they hit me up, and because I'm genuinely interested on seeing how the story is gonna be moved forward in terms of the endless, offensive bias, and the spirit of fire. The Halo CE remake MUST include all these OG devs that are no longer associated with Bungie (Except Paul Russell, he said he is done with working on videogames). And if it doesn't, and it's yet another failure of a game, then this franchise is truly at a point where it cannot ever go back to what it once was. It's almost impossible at this point. A bad remake would just put the final nail on the coffin.

saw a video on this today about this as well about how 343 didnt want Marty O'Donnell either and they treated Jeff Steitzer the classic halo multiplayer announcer like crap and wanted to replace Steve Downes and Jen Taylor, like halo isnt halo without Steve and Jen as master chief and cortana. like all these insider leaks makes me not want anything to do with 343 made halo games anymore

343 is extremely petty. Some talented folks there but that's really a shame. A new dev should have the franchise.

I agree with Mint yall guys need to stop letting your emotion charge your responses You instantly give 343 a blanket to cover the problem at hand when you do this. Dont cave into anger and instead use some facts to add insult to injury. Not curse words and threats. These people need to be dethroned and that wont happen when yall keep giving them ammo to fire back with.
