342/365 RADIO JAVA (Johnny Sequins, Steve Price & Tony Hustings-Moore) - FOOL (1984)

During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Today’s choice is a pretty obscure track called Fool by Radio Java. First released as a single in 1984 (with an extremely dull picture sleeve which is why I've instead shown the far more interesting cover of the "Some Of The Parts" album it was included on the following year)), it was a surprise hit in Holland which earned them this Christmas Eve appearance on their TopPop TV show • Radio Java Fool AG2... . The band comprised singer Johnny Sequins, bass-player Steve Price with Tony Hustings-Moore on Keyboards. Moore had originally been with Iron Maiden, and after Radio Java would continue an active career with Cutting Crew, before going on to create the critically acclaimed Kashmir Klub in 1997. “Fool” is an extremely unusual track that people usually either love or hate, and to my ears it sounds like something Mike Batt would have had a hit with.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
