34007 Climbs To Ipstones Loop - Churnet Valley Winter Steam Gala 2014
Ex Southern Region West Country Class No. 34007 Wadebridge is seen on it's second attempt at taking on the heavily graded Incline to Ipstones Loop on the Cauldron Lowe branch line, after taking part in a issue plagued Winter Gala at the Churnet Valley Railway. After it's 1st run Wadebridge was failed with a reportedly snapped firebar, fortunately they done a temporary fix with some signal rod, and was back out in the late afternoon for another crack at the climb to Ipstones.
The Bullied is seen twice at Bradnop Bridge as it's makes good progress to the summit. Apologies for the wind interference in the first scene. Hope you enjoy the sounds of a Bullied working hard.

Nice video. It looks like your first clip at Bradnop was the mid afternoon run with Wadebridge (around 15.30), if it was you must have been standing right next to me! Cheers, Dave.

'Wadebridge' has a distinctly different 'beat' compared to 'Tangmere'. Great clips, thanks for posting

34007 valve timing is not right compared to '67, hence they sound slightly differently.

Thanks Austin, i believe the problems it suffered was due to it's first run up the bank where it stalled. But well done to the crew on getting it back out for another crack at it.

Why is there a short narrow tunnel at Bradnop when the rest of the line is fit for double track?

Marsh Steam Videos 34007 never nearly blew up, and neither did she stall! First trip a section of the cast grate collapsed into the ashpan taking the fire with it, meaning she was momentarily unable to maintain boiler pressure and with the stiff gradients & severe curves she lost her momentum. We managed to get her back to Chedd, where she missed her second trip whilst repairs were carried out intime for her to run her booked third trip as planned.

What was the technical difficulty? Did look as if there was a bit of a leak from the LH cylinder there.

The climb ranges from 1 in 40 up to 1 in 59. The steepest part is around Bradnop so i'm told.
