340 Games Tested Ryzen 5600G [Part 1/6]
Let me know which one's your favorite game on the 5600G :) I tested almost my entire Steam library, a ton of free E-sports games, and a good chunk of the games available on Microsoft Xbox Game pass.
NOTES AND CORRECTIONS
Some boards will run the Vega at 1900, but some may run it at 2000 when XMP is on. The 100Mhz difference results in about a 1% performance difference using 3200 MT/s RAM.
I judge first-person competitive shooters harder than 3rd person single-player games.
AoE 2 DE tested at High settings.
I didn't confirm AoE 3 is the least popular AoE; that's just how it feels to me ;)
Elder Scrolls Online wouldn't work; the new patch broke it on my end; it used to work and runs fine.
I forgot to add the image "Real Yakuza's use a Gamepad" that shows when starting the game Yakuza Remastered 3.
... ( more to come ? )

Haha, thanks! I was panicking a bit when the chapters (timestamps) didn't show at first, then I found out that it can do at most 100 (I had 123 originally); that's not documented anywhere. That's why I had to pair a few unrelated games into the same chapter.

Haha, thanks! I remember you, you subbed on the 5600G Cyberpunk 1.5 FSR test video :) We're seeing great leaps in iGPU/APU performance and I'm excited to see what the next iterations hold. This will be a good point of reference.
@PixelShade
2 жыл бұрын
@@reto Definitely! Not to mention the amazing work Valve and AMD is doing to optimize APUs for Linux / SteamOS with the Steam Deck (mine is shipping today). I mean the general struggle for APUs will always be memory bandwidth. However, it seems like Proton (with DXVK) can remedy most of it since "draw calls" don't need to be prepared by the CPU in Vulkan and the GPU can execute those commands with direct access to the DDR5 memory of RDNA2. :) It really is exciting times for APUs.
@reto
2 жыл бұрын
I'm jealous, SteamDeck pre-order wasn't available in my Region. Yes, DXVK (and VKD3D) are amazing, I compiled vulkan d3d12.dll from source and tried it in Windows with Elden Ring, I'm not sure it worked; I have to do more testing, but it wouldn't launch with anti-cheat on, so I think it at least tried to load it up. Will be doing more Linux content here in the future, the baked-in FSR stuff works in general, not just with the SteamDeck, that I have tested and confirmed working. I hope more devs will embrace native Vulkan in the future, I mean if id Software is doing it, it's probably the way to make well performing games :D
@PixelShade

@@reto I wish I could've have sold you mine. But I desperately need my own for game development (I'm a game developer). I guess Valve will add more countries as they go along. But yeah, It's a real shame they don't offer it to more countries, and it is kind of odd that Sweden is a market they allow, perhaps because it is really small.... At least they solve the problem of scalping this way as you can only buy one. I mean Vulkan is a double edged sword actually. Although it is highly efficient, and you have more control. The older APIs were more forgiving with memory management and such. With Vulkan and DX12, you need to deal with a lot more memory management, which makes the whole process a whole lot more technical. But at the same time you have way less CPU overhead and most instructions go directly to the GPU. :) But I guess that's not really a problem. Looking at myself I don't have time to develop an engine of my own, and I think that is the case for most small indies up to semi-large AAA studios. Many leave that technical work to experts within the industry like Epic, Unity, Crytek, Valve, IdSoftware etc. I actually use WebGL in my game since I am 100% convinced that Construct 3 is the best 2D engine out there currently. And although webGL feels a bit odd, it's highly performant. Much more so than doing 2D in i.e. Unity. :)

Thanks! I may just shoot Gabe an email - lol. Good to know you are a game dev; do you have an idea why VKD3D DXR doesn't work with ray-tracing in Cyberpunk? It works in almost every other game that has ray-tracing. Let me know when I can test that game on the channel ;)

Others have said it many times already but this is a huge amount of work and very much appreciated. I was already decided on the 5600g before finding your channel but the test and benchmarks are enormously helpful in knowing what to expect and feeling confident in the decision to get it - especially because I'm on a very small budget and replacing my old gpu is definitely going to make a big difference, which I didn't feel that strongly about until I saw all these benchmarks. Now I'm sure I want to try making it work (on windows 7, so, fingers crossed xD). Finally I can take that gpu out and not worry about the fan anymore xD Thank you

@Reto's Bench Newer versions of the AMD drivers are indeed only for win10 and up but there have been people who have backported the drivers for the motherboard and iGPU to win7, as well as the usb3 drivers, so I want to give that a shot to see if I can do it. I want to avoid win10 because the friends I have who have been on win10 for the past few years have had many problems with updates breaking things that worked and having to troubleshoot it with them just makes me want to stay away from win10 as much as I can. Plus, I don't like the nasty telemetry stuff and there was a fiasco a few years ago with Blender having half the performance on win10 vs linux just because win10 decides to abuse computer resources with background processes. It doesn't help that the last job I was at, I had to use win10 on a weak machine and half the cpu was always in use because it was compressing memory... I know I'm taking risks trying to use unofficial driver ports but it's either win7 problems or win10 problems, so I'd rather fight an unsupported OS than have to fight Microsoft on win10. The only reason I'm on windows is because of games. I only play a few but they are important to me because of socialising so, even though game compatibility on linux has got a ton better in the past few years, I don't feel comfortable moving entirely to linux yet, even though I prefer it. I still use it in VMs. I have to admit, your linux speedrun video does make me hopeful though and if I had the hard drive space I would try a serious dual boot to try it out myself but as of now, that's hard to do :3 Thanks though, that video was also helpful

Thank you for the video mate, helped me make a decision regarding my first PC build! I think I’ll get a 5600g as a placeholder and to be honest is probably better in some way then my 2013 Xbox!then try to get a 3060ti or 70 when the 40 series cards release
@reto

Glad to hear it! Yeah, if you look at games like Tomb Raider (2013) it can run these at 60 FPS at nice settings. 3060 Ti or 3070 will work great, I'm doing a lot of testing with the 3060 right now (liking the combo a lot).
Thanks for the effort!

Idk why people dont like 30fps, it looks VERY playable, but since ive lived with laggy devices all my life, other people might thing its less playable than what i think.

Some games work better at 30 FPS than others. I happily play the Plage Tale games at 30 FPS (slower pacing, 3rd person), playing Doom Eternal at 30 FPS probably isn't as much fun (fast-paced, 1st person).
Great work man! I have a X300 Deskmini with a 5600g as my HTPC.

I see, you understand what's a properly sized coffee mug. Those are very nice cards, I had an RTX 3070 here, but I only made two videos with that. I sold/traded it to a friend, it's the 4th high-end card I let go off since the GPU-shortage started.

I had a similar experience with COD Warzone. 😓 They should take notes cuz games like Doom Eternal can easily run on Vega 7. Old Call of Duty games could run on anything. Probably because cuz they were well optimized.

Yeah, the framerate isn't as much of a problem. It's pretty steady, but at 66% of 1080p, it's hard to make out enemies at a distance, which is a significant disadvantage.

@@reto A bit late, but do you think it's worth it? it's the cpu good enough even with the drawbacks of the worse L3 cache and not PCie 4.0 support? I would love to go the 5600x + cheap gpu path, but i don't have much money and don't want to upgrade the cpu in the near future. Thank you for your hard work in the making of this video.

@@SilentSpica If you go with a cheap GPU, it's probably best to go for the 5600 (not X), the i5-12400f or the 5700X. Whether it's worth it depends on pricing for CPUs and whether you can get a good second hand deal on a GPU.

Here are my current top 3 games to run in the 5600g for a high refresh rate experience: 3.- flat out 2, this game runs exceptionally well at max settings 1080p, it seems to be locked at 100 fps tho, but the gameplay makes up for it 2.- Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, a source based game that came out in 2006, very fun, lots of powers that let you torture orcs the way God mandates , don't let the lame steam screenshots fool you this game rocks, and that can be said for almost every and any source game ever, if you are a valve aficionado you'll have no issues running their games, besides the newest additions like half life Alyx or the steam tech portal demo that came out recently but that's a given 1- red faction guerilla re-mars-tered, this is a 2018 remaster of a 2009 game, it manages to run at 100+ fps giving you the best of both worlds, awesome visuals and a really nice performance, if you used to destroy things for fun when you were little you will absolutely love this game, with a very detailed and well implemented destruction system although lacking gun-play this game takes the top list on my current favorite games to run with this apu
@reto

Awesome! I'll note those down. I'm not into car games, so I haven't tried Flat Out 2. I have heard of Dark Messiah, there's a new game Amid Evil (same devs as Ultrakill), I hear that has kind of similar gameplay, also Succubus has melee + magic first-person combat. I remeber Red Faction, but that must have been an even earlier version, but the demo version of it might have been all I was able to afford as a kid ;) Might have to try Dark Messiah and do some "research" on the Red Faction games. Edit: I have tried Amid Evil on the 5600G, it runs fine, I believe it even has FSR (DLSS and ray-tracing as well).

@Reto's Bench I'm not into car games either but I have a soft spot for it since I used to play the psp version 'flat out head on' back when I was 10-11 years old, the handling is very arcadey-esque and if you manage to get bored while driving and smashing cars like a mad man you can always crash into a pole and send your character flying out the windshield, it's very fun and it's also currently on offer for 2 dollars I didn't bother trying out amid evil because I assumed I couldn't run it decently, it looks graphically challenging for the vega 7 but I might try it once it's on offer, although there's always the 'research' option so I might try that first But I'm not really sure about succubus, I feel very iffy about lewd games since my brother really likes breaking into my room with no prior notice lol Besides that recommendation I just want to thank you, no other channel covers this apu as much as you do, if you were to make a patreon I would go out of my way to give you a hand just so you can test more games without hurting your wallet as much Cheers:D

Haha :) Wacky physics are always fun. There's a demo version of Amid Evil (I don't have the full version), it's either on Steam or on GoG (or both). I want to prove myself and the channel a bit more before I open up a Patreon (or KZread membership). I also want the scope of the channel be wider than just 5600G, but with content in the same spirit. If I only do 5600G, the channel would just inevitably die over time. Thanks for your support! I appreciate it :)
