I appreciate your feedback on this engraver. I have the Atomstack X30, a 33-36 watt diode laser, and I have faced challenges with getting the settings correct. You have saved me hours of extra troubleshooting with this video. Thank you.

Good review and great to see your standardized test process. The loudness is a safety feature, keeps you far away from the possibility of eye damage. Now about the lung damage… along with air assist, I think every laser should have at least the capability of adding an air evacuation or filtering system. You shop very quickly starts smelling like a fireplace! Very similar, except stronger, to having a smoker in the shop. The honeycomb bed makes so much difference that it should be in every laser that gets used for cutting, saves a lot of cleanup underneath. Good point about the stepper motor and the crummy focussing system, a simple turning knob would be much nicer. Also the mounting! Keep pointing this out, it’s quite easy to design this out. Also, in reality, many people are going to forget about the glasses on the odd occasion and, yes, there is a shield around the laser but some people are going to leave it off. This should have a micro switch to ensure it can’t operate without the shield. It takes only one reflection to cause permanent damage to you retina.

About the noise level I found several comments around and I tried to get some information from Sculpfun. At the end I ordered the 33W kit and I did some measurements using a free Android app and a sound meter. The results are comparable and I found that close to the module you can measure 83 dB and 76 dB at half a meter away. The point, in my opinion, is that you can not operate a 33 W laser without an adequate enclosure to evacuate fumes: in my case the enclosure reduce the noise by 20 dB reducing the noise to a common vacuum cleaner. It's unfortunate that in many cases the noise is defined by words instead of numbers.

Very detailed and honest feedback. I love it! Been using sculpfun s10 and planning to upgrade s30. Really eyeing the higher watts for speed and power. S10 so far is stable for me and have not encounter major performance issues but advanced and bulk projects requires more so s30 might work for me.

Would be interesting to see a comparison between the atomstack x30 33Watts laser and the Sculpfun S30 Ultra. I‘ve seen a comparison of the 20W lasers, where the Sculpfun was better due to a narrower laser spot. I’m curious if that’s the case here aswell. Other than that, a very great and helpful video. Thank you!

I had same issue with vibrations - easy solution is to alter your GRBL settings (I have a macro for that in Lightburn) and set a bit slower acceleration.

@@dangerous8333 that would be nice and definitely possible with a laser. However, I also have a CNC milling machine, it has a sturdy frame which is capable of these fast directional changes, but the milled material cracks in such corners, so you would want to slow down the corner speed anyway.

Since you mentioned this is the loudest laser cutter yet, maybe it's worth seeing exactly how many decibels the sound is and whether it's below the NIOSH-recommended maximum of 85 dBA (for eight hours.) Could upload it as an addendum "short" or something.

Very disappointed with Sculpfun because it's not compatible with the precious frames and wiring is different. So every time they have a new laser we either throw the old one out and buy the new one or just keep buying laser??? This is not a professional way. Once we find a better and professional brand I myself will immediately go with the best products because they don't care about their customers. You guys are content makers and just get lasers or products and so not use them like us who have dedicated tasks and businesses. 😢😢😢
