337/365 TANGERINE DREAM - WARSAW IN THE SUN (PART ONE) (remix of segment of Barbakane) (1984)

During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Today’s choice is Warsaw In The Sun (Part One) by the pioneering German Electronic band Tangerine Dream. Ironically it was TD who paved the way for Kraftwerk’s success, and yet with Kraftwerk having repayed the debt by opening the door for singles chart hits in the late 70’s, TD were unable to capitalise on that themselves. First released as a single in 1984, “Warsaw In The Sun (Part One)” was actually a studio remix of a segment of the track “Barbakane” from the live “Poland” album released that same year. It’s a very melodic medium based instrumental with a great deal of depth to it, but it failed to capture the imagination of the British record-buying public and only made to no. 96 in the charts here. This was probably TD’s most commercial single release, so when this one failed they probably realised that they were never going to emulate Jean Michel Jarre or Vangelis in achieving a singles hit, which is probably why they were so prolific in churning out more than 100 studio albums during their 50 years+ career.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
