As a kid growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, the Viper was always such an aspirational car. Some sort of muscle car on steroids, and it’s connection to the original Shelby Cobra. 10 cylinders instead of 8, giant tires, side pipes. Seeing how far the car got before being discontinued, and then how far some of these guys have taken it is just unbelievable to me. It’s sad to know the V10 is gone and won’t be back. Such a legendary car and one that’s always been near to my heart.

@@tacobonsai be careful assigning too much credit to Shelby - while it was spiritually inspired by the Cobra, the Viper was the creation of “Maximum” Bob Lutz, Tom Gale, and Francois Castaing, with Lutz providing the germ of the idea (stuffing the new Dodge Ram’s V10 and 5-speed into an ersatz “modern Cobra”) and Gale and Castaing putting pencil to paper, hands to clay molds, and actually executing the design. Shelby’s role, beyond “blessing” the endeavor, was to serve as intermediary between Lutz and Iacocca - Lee did not care much for Bob at the time, leading to Iacocca eventually picking the mercurial Bob Eaton to succeed him as chairman instead of the pure-bred motorhead Lutz, a move Iacocca regretted for the rest of his days after Eaton gutted Chrysler before selling it to Daimler, and we all know how well that turned out… Shelby played a key part in the creation of the original Viper, in as much as he was the veteran pitchman that got the idea past Iacocca’s desk, but it is perhaps stretching the meaning of the word to call him “instrumental.” This is of course all based on the actual words of the men involved, not just my opinion. Can’t deny Shelby was a heckuva salesman, especially when it came to selling himself!
The clip at 20:40 is probably the coolest drag racing clip I’ve seen in 2023 yet. From the detail of the traction compound on the ground, to capturing Cleetus go sideways and all- just awesome

RWD 3300 Hp. Fighting For Half Mile Records With Cars That Struggle To Put It Down AWD
Amazing! What's even more amazing is gen 2 TT Vipers broke into the 7's back in 2005 or 2006 (full weight with manual trans and IRS), and into the 6's about 10 years ago!
Damn dodge really built a good platform . And these guys advanced the engine . The perfect combo
I still remember the days when 400 HP was considered INSANE! Now we're just casually talking about 1500+ HP like it's no big deal. Then I see this car with 3300 and my jaw hits the floor! At this rate, by the year 2030 it'll become normal for cars to push 10,000 HP and will be able to pull off 0-60 times in less than 1 second! You freaking maniacs you!

Viper, the king !
Man oh man, what a monster of a car this Viper is!!! It’s absolutely unbelievable that this monstrosity is producing that much power and for all intents and purposes it appears as a daily driven grocery hauler, if you will!?!?!? I mean, honestly, outside of the rather large rear wheels and tires and the big wing it really does look just like a run-of-the-mill stock Viper!!! I think it’s also well worth noting that while watching the interior shot of the race with the flying Mustang, at the 23:09 mark of the video, you can clearly see the instrument cluster and see the tachometer through the whole run, albeit a bit shaky but still more than viewable. After watching and rewatching multiple times and watching the tachometer closely, you can see that when he leaves the starting line, in the drag race, he is sitting right at, or around, about 4,500rpm’s when the car launches with the green light. You can say goodbye to those low starting line rpm’s once the green light illuminates. From the time he lays into the gas all the way until he pulls the chutes, at the end of the run, the rpm’s constantly hover right there in between, what appears to be, 6,500 to 7,000rpm’s, and that is for the entirety of the run, which includes going through all of the gears!!! And “what does that tell me, exactly?”, you ask. It simply tells me this car is set-up and geared to perfection!!! From what I can tell, the engine NEVER looses more than 1,000rpm’s during the whole run. He starts out at around 4,500rpm’s when staging at the starting line and after he launches the car he shifts out of 1st gear at around 7,000rpm’s, once into 2nd gear the engine drops down to about 6,500rpm’s and runs back up to around 7,000rpm’s before he shifts it again, repeating the whole process until he crosses the finish line right around, or above, 200mph!!! To which I can only say, “dammit man, that has to be ONE HELLUVA RIDE!!!”.
We all know the car siting next to him and what it has in it so I thought that was cool seeing them side by side
Love this car.
It seems so smooth and planted with very quick shifts. I luv the dramatic sequential shifts on these cars though.

Aaron is awesome. But I’ll bet if they ever gutted the car it’s be a mid to low 6 sec car. There’s a looooot of possible weight savings avail. Then again it’s awesome to see a streetable extremely high HP car.
@Gabethemosthated
Жыл бұрын
Yea, but I think the fact that he’s able to drive it on the street as just a street car an still have ac an a mostly stock interior really shows how insane the car is, most if not every other car he’s competing against has a stripped out interior with just a roll cage an a single seat an minimal aero parts, the fact this cars running 6s is mind boggling an your right he can easily run mid to low 6s maybe even one day 5s this car probably has the most potential in it class
think about a longer spoiler at the front attached on site just to race , to the bumper, improving downforce and height and coverage of the rear wing. It’s almost fly .
Daammmnn
I love the mapping, how you can own a 3300 hp car and just turn a knob and it makes half the power and is still street legal
As I've always said and will till death do I part there's no replacement for displacement, it's MOPAR or no car, and there's no school like the old school!!!!!
If mullet hooks you can't beat it. Im a dodge fan but you know thats a new project for them. The thing it does way better is on the street other then mullet! LOVE ME SO MOPAR BROTHER!
@truckthings4302
Жыл бұрын
I thought mullet was a 5000hp engine and making over 3600hp to the wheels currently because they couldn't give it full boost yet and also if this viper gets gutted like mullet it would beat it mostly likely every race even if mullet does a full pass and I'm pretty sure that viper would be a consistent low mid 6 sec car in the 1/4 mile

I don’t think anyone grasps that 9 litre V10 is by far the most impressive engine there is, you can compare this right next to 7 litre V8s because getting your liters up to your cylinder count is guaranteed hellish power, and the 9 litre viper is by far the most capable and guaranteed 3000 hp v10 and engine entirely in the entire car industry
