    Doug Wider was America’s first elected black governor but he wasn’t America’s first black governor. Oscar Dunn 1822 - 1871 was America’s first black governor for the state of Louisiana for 39 days because white governor Governor Warmoth injured his foot and left Louisiana to recuperate on two occasions

    Virginia has a horrific racist past and Wilder was able to win politically there spoke volumes.
