The toy @ 0:43 is only a more refined version of the gyroscope we had as kids back in the 50s & 60s. They either had string to pull or a rubber sleeve that you ran against an edge of something.

I would love a tornado kinetic sculpture to display in my home. I've always wanted a curio cabinet or perhaps even an entire room to display a large collection of objects that are kinetic, 3-D, interactive/participatory, stimulating or appealing to the 5 most well-known senses (each separately), with a heavy focus throughout or at least in one area on that which is particularly exciting/interesting/stimulating/satisfying/relaxing/mezmerizing to the sense of sight- including things that exhibit, utilize, augment, etc. various kinds & combinations of movement, illumination/light, shadow, pattern, reflection, refraction, color, shape, form, translucency, transparency, visual depth & texture, eye candy, optical illusion, pre-cinema animation, optical toys, instruments, & inventions throughout history up to current day, & items that demonstrate all different sorts of optical phenomena, effects, techniques, & tricks. I think it would be delightfully entertaining for almost anyone who found themselves spending any amount of time within such a space!
