323 CI Small Block Mopar Engine Build Part 3: Oil Pump Modification and Installation
Back on project Magnum CI, the 323 cubic inch small black Mopar that started life as a 5.2 Magnum (commonly known as a 318 LA engine). In this episode we show you how to clearance an oil pump, install it, and inspect the internals.
If you saw in the first video, we installed the Eagle forged crankshaft and used ARP fasteners on the mains. While reading the supplied instructions from ARP, it said there is a possibility of having to clearance the oil pump to have it fit past the main bolt and washer. Well, luck has it, that's what we had to do here. We are using a Melling pump and pickup with installation hardware supplied by Hughes. 2 Hacks Garage uses Melling oil pumps in all of our engine builds, they are a quality product made right here in the USA. The oil pump is truly the heart of your engine, trust a quality manufacturer.

I've built a number of 323's and mostly in A body cars. At the dragstrip these street/strip engine have run in the high 12's low 13's with 355 gears!
