$32,900 Proven Bluewater Cruising Sailboat for sale | EP 50
We found a really nice cutter-rigged sailboat for sale in Eliot, Maine this week. She's a throwback style of old - canoe stern (or double-ender) with some lovely wood inside. We heard that the owner sailed it from the Atlantic to the Pacific by way of the Panama canal.... and cruised it through the Caribbean before returning to Maine. Check it out!

I'm thinking of cruising the ICW and maybe doing the great loop in a sailboat. I'm worried about the mast height for most larger sailboats. How difficult is it to step the mast on, say, your average 32 foot sailboat? Thanks

Serious question: I'm 6'4". What length/makes of monohulls have at least 6'5" headroom?
What is your backstory Capt Q? Navy or USCG vet and if so officer or enlisted? Sea stories, how salty are you? Profession? Basically what are you made of and how do you know so much about sailboats and seamanship? Congrats on 50! Thanks for your simple straight talk, attention to details, presentation and the story talk you throw in. But sometimes you go into the reeds with your boy Randy, yes. 🤙🏻

Captain Q and Ran-D have Great sense of humors, and their witty dialogue keeps us alert and learning (and laughing right along, if you have a sense of humor)! I think they and their video productions are absolutely Fantastic, and my vote is that they carry on, and not change a thing!! To Captain Q and Ran-D, please carry on, and on.
I've realized that each classic boat no matter the style or make, they are moving art. Thanks Captain Q. It makes sailing even more special and I can't wait to own one.

Robert that is a bit of a tough question to answer I think but I’ll be interested to read any answers. Reason being is there will be many opinions because people have their preferences and biases for example. I’m just learning to sail myself on a 33’ Viking (C&C) so I’m not able to offer any opinion other than to get out on a few different boats and feel them out. I went down to my Marina and became crew, racing 3x a week. I can also see how different boats respond out there in that time. Once you start looking into things more, you’ll see the many factors that need consideration. There are many differences between monohulls. Research the various keels, consoles, how many masts, ....etc etc. Find out what you might prefer and why. I have a list of some suggested boats for that type of crossing (Alberg, Amel, Cape Dorey, C&C, Island Packett...)but with your budget I think you should be able to find something without a problem. Even search you tube and see what people are sailing and so on. Takes time I know but I’m not sure any one person can answer your question as there are so many variables and things one person might find necessary while others do not. Also it’s not just the type of boat but how it’s outfitted. You’ll likely want a water maker, so will it come with or will you need to buy and install? Solar? Bimini? And so on. Maybe you realize that I don’t know but definitely budget for it. Hope this helps a bit. Take care.

Robert, Do your research, get the best boat you can for $40,000 or less. Sail it find out what you like and don't like. Then and only then, sell it get your money back. Now you will have a answer for buying a forever boat.
Congratulations on 50 episodes. And many happy returns.
Here’s to you, guys. Always look forward to thursdays because of your great show. The next fifty will be just as good..and maybe even better..if that is even possible.
Tidal Wave was sold recently (within the past 2 years) Loved her lines. Good episode. Lately you have been hitting the sweet spot of what I have been looking for. Thanks
Congratulations on reaching 50 episodes, Cap’n and crew. Cheers
I learned to sail in Newport on a Rhodes 19, and it sounds like the same course you taught. Thanks for paving the path!
Congratulations my captain on your 50th show . I hope you and First mate Randy never stop doing shows .

There's currently 2 LeCompte's for sale in your area, one a Fastnet 45 in Maine and the other a Medalist 33 in Mass. Given that your that your PB was a LeCompte, it would be interesting to see your take on either of these.
Nathing like captain Q before going to bed👍,Awesome as always love from India.

Congratulations for 50th episode. What I like about your channel is your passion for the naval architects which design those boats, not whom built it. I'm not gonna ask a question already been asked, but your background is impressive, both of you! You're a great team, cheers from Canada

Been tuning into this wonderful channel since it's beginning. As a former sailboat owner( twice) and god forbid houseboat owner (twice) over 30 years I'm instantly drawn into every episodes. But there's something that concerns me about Capt. Q (especially mounting a ladder). Whereas you provide spot-on (likely unrehearsed) monologue providing a perfect narrative description of the boat you often appear laboring and out of breath. Have you worked as a coal stoker on a steamship or , are/or were, a cigarette smoker? I look forward seeing more of well made and edited videos. Capt Q please be careful and don't overexert even simple things can be difficult ... don't be too proud to not use supplemental oxygen if you have COPD. ..want to see more of you & Randay.

Congratulations on 50 awesome episodes 🎊🎉🎉👏👏💕💕🎆🎆
Congrats on the Fiftieth Episode. That also makes me a Fiftieth Episode Viewer. lol Love you guys. You are a great team. Great hunters too. Sure hope, when I am ready to buy again, that I have as good of luck hunting for a great boat as you do. Man this one is a beauty. Well kept and loved. Sad that they are selling her. I always reflect on the sadness of when I sold my boat. We never realize how much of ourself we have invested in emotionally into our boat, until we surrender her to a new owner. Even when we are upgrading to another boat. Hope she finds a good home.
That’s a pretty nice boat. All of the above deck seems laid out nicely and as the Captain would say “ ready to take you anywhere you want to go” . All the hardware appears to be heavy duty and set up for big water cruising. Also think the below deck is laid out very well. Definitely a no nonsense vibe to the boat yet seems would be very comfortable for one or two people. The electronics appeared to be a bit out dated but should not stop a potential buyer from purchasing it by any means. I would think someone looking for a 30ftish boat would definitely want to give this boat a hard look. Nice review Captain Q 👍🍺
Is Randay treating himself this year to that elusive perfect boat? I hope not coz it may spell the end to my favourite KZread channel. What a swell and classy operation.
I totally love this boat.
Congratulations! 50 yachts!
Lov it when we find the Dinty Moore!
Great episode love this channel
G`day Captain and Ran-day, congrats on your 50th episode, keep em coming lads. What a great yacht, just mint for its age. Had a lot of old school charm about it with a few modern upgrades. Loved her lines looks like a pintail surfboard with her canoe type stern I`m sure she would zip down ocean swells and hold a tight line on the wave face. Love you guys, thanks for letting us dream about distant shores. My question would be When are you taking us sailing captain? would love to see such an episode. Aloha till next week
Nice batting, 50 up! Onward to a century now old Sport!
Love these vlogs.
Great pedigree with Phil Rhodes and his Dogstar design, I believe Rawson boats out on the the northwest coast built about 15 of the Traveller cutters which were also Rhodes double enders. Beautiful designs!
When I see Dinty Moore it makes me holler out Hi ooooo, like Ed McMahon used to do on the Johnny Carson show. LOL 😂
Very nice. Thankyou.
I’m nostalgic about any boat Rhodes designed. At age 11 I learned to sail in Hawaii on a Rhodes 19 with keel. Wonderful boats. Even learned to dock a sailboat without a motor in that boat. This is a classic although I’m not really a double ender aficionado. Good choice to tour. Loved the satin finish in the cabin. Questions for next week: what did you two do before Cap’n Q? How far will you travel to show a boat? How is the Cap’n doing sailing his Sunfish from earlier episode?

What a beautiful little vessel at what I would think is a great price for it's condition baring of course an inspection/sea trial...

Thanks for your videos! I love how much I learn each week. I am guessing you and Randay are father and son? Do you both reside in Maine? And lastly would you consider coming down to the Chesapeake Bay to check out some boats?
I sure would love to own this boat!!
Do you still have the PB and if so, how about a tour?
AMA. Best world cruiser.
Don't trivialize the canoe stern as decorative. It can be the difference between having a following sea either poop you or broach you and just having it go by.
That main sail is huge. Tall mast and long boom.
Dinty Moore Locker !! this must be the PB !
Would love to see you guys do a Columbia Yacht!
Captain Q and Brandon, What is your favorite Blue Water Cruiser that we have seen and why, and is there another you would rather take 'round the world that you haven't reviewed? Thanks and Happy 50th may we all be blessed with 500 more.

Wonderful boat and two great tour guides. One thing I would want to add would be a floor in the garage to keep the quadrant and cables clear of all the cascade of junk that would be thrown in that locker

It isn’t a locker, it is access to the aft end of the boat. Good access to the engine, the hot water heater, fresh water pump, and several storage bays.
I was hoping you would include a clip of Hepburn explaining what 'Yar' is, but oh so disappointed you cut just before she mentions dry rot. Best line of the movie. 😊
I've always been a fan of a canoe stern because of the looks, but seeing that main traveler makes me question the efficiency of having this design. My question is: Would the beefy boom vang be enough to make up for the small traveler and would a preventer also be needed when running downwind?
Who made your trousers and have they been punished ? Congrats Captain and Randy on your brilliantly produced and presented shows, you've made a long in the tooth landlubber dreaming of a different retirement option.
Subtract 10 points for canoe stern.
Please discuss, answer, or explain why the helm is placed in the middle of the cockpit? Some boats like the Amel and the Mapleleaf have the helm at the front of the cockpit mounted beside the companionway. I am specifically referring to center cockpits but it may apply to rear cockpits as well. In most cockpits it is difficult to get from the front side to the back side of the wheel. We greatly enjoy and look forward to your Thursday Videos. Thanks for your videos and your response, Duane and Liz

Are you 2 related? Do you own boats yourself? Is the Jaguar S-type the progeny of the Ford Taurus? Do you get a commission on the sale of the boats that you showcase? Maybe a follow up with the buyers of the boats that have been shown to see how it turned out?
$33K for a sailboat this sweet proves that you don’t need $100K+ to set sail in any ocean! Great find once again!

Thank you for your channel. Several episodes back you did a review on an Allied Seawind Mk II . I asked a question on the posting but never received a reply. Since your taking questions now. Wanted to know if you feel this boat is capable of sailing in the southern latitudes ? Would you feel confident rounding Cape Horn and through the drake passage with this boat. Your input would be very appreciated. .You stated this was " a sailor's boat"

Questions: #1 Your favorite SV, not counting the PB, or one from the channel-just what you and Ran-Day would like to have? #2 Do you get a commission on the yachts sold thru your posts, you don't need to answer it but I would like to know? #3 What is the story behind the faithful Seadog? #4 Are wooden boat better to sail, not considering the maintenance? (just the sound of them going thru the water) #5 is there a limit the amount of questions one can ask?(should have led with this one I guess) #6 Feeling on light work work below vs. the more traditional dark? (I have wondered if you were offshore if it would be hard to darken the cabin below for the crew with the very light wood I have seen in new boats)
