31 Online Selling Venues That Aren't Etsy

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I asked the members of my Eshop program for the places that they've sold before other than Etsy, and this is the list they came up with. Some are for specific countries only, and I don't have personal experience with most of them, but it's a list to check out to see if they'd be a fit for your business.

I'm really enjoying ko-fi. I sell a lot of collage/mixed media kits and it is awesome for connecting to my customer base through their blog feature. Plus, the membership option has been great so people can join a monthly membership and you can give them exclusive content and/or printable items/discounts designed ONLY for members. It's almost a social media platform for artisans. I'm able to go into detail and give ideas for the collage kits i sell and it has been really helping drive sales. If you're looking for a different way to sell things while connecting with your customers in different ways, ko-fi is the way to go

Thanks Kara. I’m so done with Etsy. They are going to go out of business- you can see it. They have lost their focus. And if they tell me one more time to lower my prices… if I lower my prices anymore, it won’t be worth it to have a handmade business. And that’s the problem- they have forgotten what people do here- WE ARE ARTISTS. Artists don’t discount their work, they don’t have a strike through price, they don’t have deal days- they have a craft, in which you get a beautiful handcrafted item that was made for you. I’m looking forward to Etsy closing its doors, or a competitor completely wiping the floor with them.

Thanks for this very informative video. Actually all of your videos are packed with info 👍 but this one is very timely for me. I did what I would call a soft-launch of my business on Etsy right before the holiday season last year and did OK w/ Etsy and in-person selling. I’m starting to get ready for full launch this fall and I need to branch out from Etsy. I would love to see more content on how to leverage KZread for selling our handmade products without becoming a full fledged “KZreadr”. I have no desire (or time) to focus on YT but would love to see some tips on how to leverage it for selling physical handmade products. Thanks again for delivering super helpful content.

Mind I’d like to know more about Zazzle if others do too. And add in Gumroad, for digital assets, pricing going from free to “pay what you want” to min. payment asked for, for a product.

I used to work for a wholesale company so I was able to list a bunch of items and then buy it when I sold something. I was selling supplies so maybe handmade is different but I did get a good amount of sales when I used to have a Shopify store and connected it to Facebook without having to do any ads. The problem I had was when I got rid of my Shopify store. They said if I deinstalled the app, then all my items would be removed from Facebook. But they were not so I kept getting orders on Facebook I couldn’t fill unless I contacted Facebook each time to sort of release the order. Then I asked can I open my Shopify again to fix the issue and they said my products wouldn’t be on Shopify anymore. So I ended up having to go through like 2000 items on Facebook and put the quantities to zero because I couldn’t delete them. So I did have good luck with Facebook marketplace, but just make sure if you want to get off of there then everything is ok.

Now I switched my website to WordPress because I already have hosting so it’s free and I might try connecting to Facebook again and see how it goes this time. I have less inventory, so not sure if I’ll get as many sales, but we’ll see.

I have been on Fine Art America for years. I’m going to close that account pretty soon as I probably made no more than $30. On a $350 order I think I made about $30. Mind you these are print on demand products the people are buying and I’m keeping the original art. Anyway, I also wanted to say that I knew the original people who started Spoonflower because they were in the custom drapery business as was I and that’s how I knew them. I did a watercolor and printed some fabric and made placemats. Their prices are high for fabric in my opinion. But then it’s custom printed. However, they do have a lot of different types of fabric that you can print on. I did not know the company had been taken over but I’m not surprised. Because they are very successful.

What about Ko-fi? It is for video, and a variety of types of creatives but it's particularly of interest to me because it is a home to many successful sticker makers. Several very successful You Tube sellers that make junk journals and digitals for them sell on there. You have a lot of freedom on your own site, you can actually do some mini-blogging about your art. It's not famous except in certain communities like sticker lovers, so you may need to drive traffic. I'm about to set up a shop which easy to do I'm curious if anyone has experience. Then there is Cara a new artist site that is exploding because they use glazing which prevents AI from scraping your art work. I believe it's more geared for exposure but the glazing factor is a big deal in the age of AI.

I haven’t heard of Ko-fi but it’s good to know that it’s working well for sticker and junk journal sellers! I’m about to get started creating/selling digital junk journal kits and already have a shop on Etsy (where I sell similar items) but also want to have my own website for it as well. I was going to go with Payhip but might reconsider after I check out Ko-fi. Do you have recommendations of some channels featuring these KZread junk journal sellers? I could use some Inspo/insight on how they use Ko-fi to sell/market/showcase their products. Thank you so much in advance. :)
