#31 - KTM 390 Adventure | Pro Spec Easy Clutch: Install & Test

Hey there adventurers. I have been on a quest to reduce the clutch effort at the clutch lever so as to achieve a true one-finger clutch operation. I think I have done it here with the combination of Prospec’s Easyclutch Pro+ in tandem with the Aliexpress one-finger clutch.

    Hey ADVinJapan, sending love for your content from India. I own the same bike, well the 2023 version and the brilliant Prospec guys actually work out of the same city that I live in. I had the benefit of visiting them and their recommendation is to route the clutch cable from the right of the ignition key to further reduce any kinks/bends and therefore binding in the cable. Also, they recommended going for the Prospec Pro short cable version of the EasyClutch which basically plugs onto the OEM cable for easier replacements for when your clutch cable lets go.The extra length also allows my bar risers.

    Hey thanks a lot! This is great advice. I contacted them and they’ve also been super kind enough to send me a shorter cable. I may do another video showing how to use it with your existing cable as well. Great advice, brother, thanks!

    Be careful with reducing the pull (or increasing the leverage) too much. As you make the lever pull easier, you reduce how much the clutch arm moves. At some point you will either be not engaging the clutch fully, causing it to slip and burn while riding, or not disengaging the clutch fully, causing it to rub and burn while stopped, or both. Make sure that the bike doesn't creep forward when the clutch is pulled in, and that the cable has some free play when released. And try it with your fingers holding the grip when pulling the lever since this will limit how far you can pull the cable. Hope it works well for you.

    I do appreciate these videos but the reality is your showing me Im making all the right choices for me. All the cheap mods are worth it on this model bike to just make it that little bit better. Anything more is just not. For me. If Im gonna spend 7K on the bike and another 4K on mods for what a 10% better experience? Then there are other bikes up in that price range that are 200% better experience.

    Does all the mechanical advantage change the throw and how far you have to move the lever to hit the friction zone? Are you going to cut the lever? Whenever I pull the clutch lever in all the way, the end hits my 3rd and 4th fingers.

  • @advinjapan

    @advinjapan

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey H M, for the first question, if I understand what you’re asking correctly, in short, no, the install didn’t change where the friction zone was much at all. I changed it with that dial on the stock levers. 5 will put the friction zone closest to your handle bar and 1 the furthest. I believe I have mine at 2 or 3, where as before it was at 4. So my friction zone lays further from the handle bar, meaning I don’t have pull in as much. If you have monster fingers like I do, then maybe somewhere around 2 or 3 would be good, but I still hit my other fingers when pulling in the lever. For your second question, yeah, I may pick up some aftermarket levers to help with that. Do you have any recommendations?

    To each his own. Personally, I struggle with tendinitis, the lighter the better. Also, a lighter clutch pull, in theory, will give you finer, better control over the drive train.

    Does this matter if one's bike has QuickShifter+ enabled?

  • @advinjapan

    @advinjapan

    11 ай бұрын

    Hello! Yes is does matter, partially. While the clutch lever is used to shift the bike, it is also used to manage power to the rear wheel. And the easier the clutch lever is to pull, the better clutch control you have. Also the quickshifter, at least on my bike, is also very jerky in the lower gears so I prefer to use the clutch when possible. Thanks!
