Though Australia are not the focus of the story, two small details left out: - Australian players at Rangers were benched by Dick Advocaat for scoring so many and being 'unsportsmanlike.' - Australia only scored so many, because they were trying to qualify ahead of NZ in case GD was an issue. So there was a rational reason.

I would recommend anybody see Next Goal Wins. A wholesome feel good story and a great documentary.

I still wonder what the score would've been if we played a full strength lineup, might've reached 50! Seriously though it was almost a necessarily over the top result to force some overdue structural changes for the OFC and moving Australia to the AFC. Australia seems to have a habit of running down the score in all sports they are good at. They hold the largest win margin records at international level in 1) Rugby 2) Football/Soccer 3) Field Hockey (both womens and mens) 4) Some cricket records too (16-0 for test cricket successive wins)

❤ Though the film deviated quite a bit from the actual story, this is still a wonderful film. Must admit it’s a strange feeling watching it as both a transgender woman & and footballer. There’s a lot I can relate to from my own experiences that I’m guessing others in the audience would never know though I’ve only played in women’s football since transitioning.
