Real talk, they could have beat the Bulls. Chicago's only flaw was matching up against elite bigs, which they never had to do outside of Ewing. Shaq and Grant destroyed them in '95, which is why they got Rodman. Olajuwon would have given them fits if they matched in the Finals.

He was almost prophetic here, talking about how tough it is to maintain that hunger to compete for titles year after year. As great as the Dubs winning 3 titles was, getting to the finals 5 years in a row was just as impressive, especially in the Western Conference.

89-94 Ewing should be talked about more. He had style and had the stat to prove it. one would have to say that Olajuwon stood out more in the 94 finals but it went seven games and the Knicks were in it for most of it in game seven despite John Starks. It was a legit a series as any but Kenny seems to have forgotten that.

@@ninowaves4061 The Knicks' small ball lineup helped them beat the Pacers in the ECF when Ewing was injured so they prolly don't even get to the finals with Ewing. He was old at that time. In his prime he really shoulda had that second guy to help him win and it's a shame he didn't. If he had a Pippen, Kemp, Stockton, Kevin Johnson or Dan Majerle, he woulda won like 1-2 rings

The biggest reason the bulls got beat in 1995 by magic in the playoffs and swept them in return the next yr is because of addition of Dennis rodman. Can't believe Kerr didn't mention that. Also Horace grant was out during the magic bulls series in 1996 except for the first game. The interior presence was far more crucial back then than in today's games

grant wouldn't have changed the result. more than having rodman, what bulls had was way better chemistry than they did the season before. when MJ came back, only pippen and BJ were part of the 1993 roster. no one else knew how to play with MJ yet and with just 17 games left, the bulls had no time to learn how to play as a team.

These guys are great. Ernie is the Larry Bird of NBA broadcasting.

Pistons really helped mj n scottie mentally and physically tough...and helped their game overall...

Shawn Kemp threw down some monstrous dunks. there were a couple years when they won a lot of games and they were exceptionally good. If Shawn Kemp didn't make questionable lifestyle choices...? I say they would have won 8 chips, but most likely not in a row. We forget that in 93, Jordan and Pippen were tired because they weren't able to rest during the summer before. Unless they were able to get good rest during that summer, they would not have won in 93-94. They would've won in 94-95 and 98-99.

@@paliboy93 .... Think about this, the season was shortened to 50 games in 98-99. Scotty Pippen played all 82 games that season and his numbers were great. Jordan would have gotten the proper rest he needed, along with the others, and they would've killed. The title SA won that year was a fluke. They were almost swept the very next year in the first round by Phoenix.

And to this day Orlando Magics still rue the time they declined that Shaq contract extension. This close to become a new dynasty, instead the history of the team filling up with "what if" tell tales.

Im telling you that basketball was more than "fun and exciting" it was dangerous, you never knew what would happen. you could see fights, crazy fans, humiliating dunks and taunts. We naturally associate toughness and physicality with defense (not pretty, grunt work), and associate offense with aesthetics and grace (poetry in motion). A defense first team (Detroit, early Spurs, and Knicks) usually was characterized as being tough and usually was a villain-like character compared to offensive teams (Bulls, Magic, to a lesser extent Rockets) who were favorites.

I genuinely hated the Pistons for sure but the talent is undeniable. Laimbeer would do well now I think, tall, tough, can defend, good rebounder, and an excellent pick and pop shooter even out to the 3.

This is one of my favorite sports shows all about the game of basketball where legends and hall of fame great players share their thoughts, stories and perspectives about their playing days and games as well as on a variety of topics in the league. God bless them all for doing this.

There's a Legend sitting right there with them, looking back at this video. This segment was taken JUST before Steve Kerr took the head coaching job for the Golden State Warriors. 6 Championships in 8 years, right after this. That's pretty incredible, you ask me.

Kerr is highly underrated in my opinion as a coach and player. That dude is and was a beast. I don't care what anybody says.

The 90s Magic was a nightmare. You put that team in today's era and 60 wins easy. You have a long PG, a reliable 3pt shooter and Shaq? Goodness.

I know some people think Brent's voice is too monotone, but I think his skills dissecting the players and the team's talent is very underrated

this why jordan was so great, he won all thos rings without ever having a good big man on his team...almost every other champ had that big man to dominate..., and during jordans riegn the nba had the most and best big men

One of the best teams not to win it is the early 90s Portland Trailblazers and they don't get recognized. 63-19 season And Clyde Drexler was a similar player to Jordan

Those Blazer teams NEVER get any love on Open Court, and that's a drag. They were the best team in the West for 3 years and you never hear anyone talk about them or Clyde, etc. Ernie even tried to open the door for them in the final segment and they never got a mention from the panel. I know they didn't win a title, but those were some great teams that everyone had issues with. That 90-91 team you mentioned that went 63-19 beat Chicago handedly in two blowouts that season. They got upended in the conference finals to the Lakers, but that year was their big missed opportunity to win one before Michael figured it out.

the blazers would have won titles in 1990 and 1992 if they didn't have to face 2 of the greatest teams of all time. they also lost in 1991 in the WCF to lakers. the early 90s blazers could have won a title in any of those seasons, but they had to face those 3 teams.

Dennis Rodman actually said that. A reporter later asked Isaiah if he agreed with Rodman's statement and Isaiah jokingly agreed. The media took that and ran with it. He was basically lynched in the media.

This is my personal opinion but I think the 90s was the best era for the center position

Funk is correct. Pistons got a lot of flack, pbly in large part due to being at the top, and dethroning the beloved Celtics. So they had a ton of attention on them right from the start.

Greatest era of basketball. Every team with a 1-2 punch. The most HOFers compared to any era. Man to man defense, post play, some of the greatest centers to play. The days when you need to set screens to get look at a 3.

Doward Washington I beg your pardon? Kenny was the second option on that Rockets team for the first championship run. He was instrumental in their system, and was even a candidate for the MVP award in 1991 season. He was a popular player even competing in a dunk contest. Which is why he regularly judges the contest post career. When did you start following the game? Those of us who grew up in the 80's and 90's know The Jet very well.
