300G- Something New

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Looking forward to a fresh new start on the 300 gallon tank as I move my African cichlids to the new 750 this week.
I was very happy to remove the 3D background from this tank as I was just simply tired of it. After having it on the tank for the last four years I decided it was time for a change.
I re-siliconed the tank and it is now up and running with the new aqua scaping and couldn't be happier with the new look!! More videos to follow on the changes that will take place on this tank. 👍👍

Black sand with discus is no bueno. Hides the detritus makes the fish darker. Can’t wait to see your setup. Wonder if you’re gonna go with Led grow flood lights

Doesn’t it also make them pepper a lot?

Excited to see how this turns up. Your sump plumbing and setup was my inspiration when I was doing mine 😊

Your previous cichlid tank was my kick start and my dream tank. I finally finished my malawi tank and has been 7 months running. I used lots of ideas including the black substrate. So, good luck with your new setup, and hope to see it very soon 🙂

Yeah the space backgrounds take up has kept me from pulling the trigger on one. Your set up def looked amazing and you did the right thing by buying a deep tank to make up for it, but really looking forward to the change up. Cheers 🍻

Hey love your change of pace!! 4 years ago had your same dilemma with the a/d background with taking up too much space,so I had them make a slim version for my 150 tall!

Hopefully a blade can cleanly remove that adhesive. Watch out with angel fish (they are NOT angels). I think the 3-D BGs look good but in some cases they remove too much swim space. I had a 150 with a "Rocky Thin" 3-D that was no more than a 1/2" but it trapped a lot of detritus behind it. Big projects ahead for you, but will certainly be rewarding when finished. Good luck.

Thank you Ben, taking a hiatus from the 3D backgrounds for now and looking forward to the change. The 300 is not a discus/Angel tank that has been up and running for a couple months now with great results. The 750 is doing great bad the new African cichlid set up. Videos to follow on all the changes this week or next. Keep up the great work with your channel, always enjoy your vids 👍

Can you give a break down of the final sump setup and the brand of pump and equipment you used and where you buy your equipment from

dang! your setup was one that I was modeling my 300 after. Sad to see the BG go as I know how expensive they are. The Cichlids were in a class of their own. Gonna be cool to see where your going. Whats your plans for the sump? great job

The cichlids will move to the 750 which will be a bigger version of this 300. This sump will remain the same, maybe change a chamber or two around, or possibly even mostly K1, we will see this coming week. 😁

If you're keen on keeping discus I would avoid the black sand. Most blue strains will go totally dark with a black background/substrate, and pigeon strains will pepper. Red strains might look good against the dark, though. I'm switching back to africans after 4 months with discus, and I'll never keep them again. Way too much work to keep them happy compared to africans. Best of luck, however! Excited go see the projects move forward!

Apart from your intent to change the tank from Malawi to a community tank, how happy were you with the aquadecor back ground? Would you recommend their product (quality wise)? Did it hold its colors?

What are you doing with the background you took off ? I’ve been looking to change up my tank and was curious about the 3d backgrounds.

Discus is good to go. Schooling peaceful sensitive Symphysodon's and ample amount of discussion to go with it. Discus = Discussion 😂. Have a discus tank.. ofcourse not like the 300 G swimming pool of yours. Black sand..discus will be not happy with that decision. ADA..La plata white sand or ADA Colorado sand. Some big chunks of driftwood's and Anubis and the discus gang will be dazzling some colours.
