    I had a 1989 and this video brings back so many memories. I lived in a remove area of NJ with miles and miles of trails, rocks, steep hill climbs, etc. The KDX was the perfect trail machine. Amazing throttle response and so easy to maneuver through the trails. I would love to have that bike back.

    I miss my 1992 KDX that I bought brand new. Back in the day my fellow riders and I would play tag where whomever was "it" would have to get tagged on the rear tire, I hardly ever lost lol. That bike was a beast, I wish I never sold it for 1K in 2002!

    Love the older KDX 200's l had one in the late 80s that was built bored out had some grinding on intake and other things. Man that thing would wheelie 1-5 gear easily. Man you could snap the throttle it would jump over trees and things like nobody's business. Awesome bike. Man l wish l still had it.

    Bought new in 01 a leftover 99 KDX200. Put it on a diet and dropped at least ten pounds of weight by adding a FMF Gnarly woods pipe and Turbine Core II silencer, and V force reeds, removed airbox lid. Open country on stock 13t countershaft, for tight technical trails I ran a 12t front. It may not have been the fastest thing in production but I know I surprised the hell out of many bigger bikes quite often. Very spirited bike, easy to maneuver, just an absolute blast to ride. Damn do I miss it.

  • @joelabbe6185

    @joelabbe6185

    I have both. 2004 KTM 200 SX with slight woods mods (FMF Gnarly, flywheel weight) with WP suspension. KDX is a 2001 with an FMF Gnarly, Factory Connection suspension, otherwise stock. KTM has a weight advantage at about 23 LBS lighter. Turns slower (wide) than the KDX and is a fair bit stiffer. No surprise there. It IS an MX bike after all. Power is a LITTLE more on the KTM at the higher RPM, but will NOT lug down low. Short gears, always shifting. KTM does better over high speed rough whoops than KDX. KDX is far more supple in the woods, but not mushy either. Can REALLY lug down low, seldom stalls in technical stuff. HUGE advantage in the technical stuff, despite the added weight. Rev rage far more usable. No doubt more confidence inspiring. Definitely ride better, smoother and overall faster on KDX. I recently finished a full restoration of the KDX and rode the KTM in the interim. Getting back on the green machine was a HUGE reminder of what makes it so special. The one I'd never sell. Bulletproof, inexpensive, comfy and all the machine an intermediate to skilled rider under 200LBS and over 50 yrs old would ever need.
