30 Note Music Box Set

Ғылым және технология

New for 2012! We are delighted to be able to announce the arrival of this new, 30 Note Music Box Set. Our large music box set, which we have offered customers for the last few years, is able to play 20 notes, which gives it a range of two and a half octaves. However it can only play the diatonic or 'white note scale'.
This new music box, with 30 notes, has a range of just over 3 octaves, but in addition it plays a scale that is mostly chromatic.
This expands the musical possibilities enormously, since this new music box can now play sharps and flats. As a little experiment, we programmed in Chopin's Prelude in A, Opus 28 no. 7, which would not have been possible without the availability of sharps and flats. You can see Tim playing this in the video.
The 30 Note Music Box Set comes in a plain white box. Inside the box is the Music Box itself, one pre punched strip which plays the theme from Swan Lake, one blank strip, and a hole punch.

Isn't it ironic that we have powerful, miniaturized computers that are amazingly complex, yet we seem to enjoy simple mechanical machines like this much more.

Probably because we can actually see the mechanics and movement and it’s much easier to understand whereas the average person has no idea how a computer actually works

That's not irony. I enjoy the music box because it adds a tactile factor to my composing, and I enjoy the computers because they allow me to realise entire orchestral works.

That is great! I've been holding off buying the previous version precisely because it did not allow me to operate in the full range. I'm a musician and would like to use it in some of my songs. Great to know this is now a reality

The scale is F.G.C.D.E.F.G.A.Bb.B.C.Db.D.Eb.E.F.Gb.G.Ab.A.Bb.B.C.Db.D.Eb.E.F.G.A. This can be transposed into any key you wish. I have arranged many tunes including some great Scott Joplin on mine!

Hi - I have one of these 30 note music boxes but I'm really struggling to transpose music into appropriate keys for it. Have you got any tips? Are there any particular key signatures that you think it works particularly well with. I'd be very grateful for any advice, my music theory is pretty limited... Elliott

Elliott Fisher The trick is to transpose the instrument and not the music!!! Mark the instrument's notes on a length of card so they sit above the relevant notes on the piano keyboard ( note; the key-tails of a piano keyboard are equi-spaced. Put the card strip behind the black notes so it sits vertically ). Then move the strip either up or down by a few notes so it sits above the notes used by the sheet music you are using. When you have reached the correct position, use these marked notes as the new scale for your instrument. Easy!

Which "accidentals" are missing? I can hear there's no F# in the middle, which other notes are unavailable? Also, is there a full chromatic version?

They should make a more completely Chromatic version like a 36, 37 or even more notes like the Super Chromatic Music Box.

What is exactly the range of the music box? Does it play all flats and sharps of a scale, or just some of them? Because it says it has a range of just over 3 octaves, but if it plays all flats and sharps, that would be only 2 and a half octaves.

It will kill you to operate when you are getting a little bit older. There is no need to enjoy music like this harsh way. There are thousands of better way to enjoy the music. I suggest you to have the music recorded and then input the recording sound to computer and then lie down to enjoy the music done by your sweet hand work.
