A few months back I bought a 'faulty' n3DS that wouldnt charge or turn on for about $20. I changed the battery to test, and it worked just fine. Charged as well. I thought, all it needs is a new battery. I put the battery in my other 3ds to see if it would charge JIC, and it charged just fine. So it needed no fixing, just the battery being drunk.

I might be high as fuck but you made me realize repairing stuff like this isn't that difficult, most of it looks like little modules you can replace. The hard work is being patient to move and take things appart carefully, and also being extremelly organized. You did both perfectly, your video set and editing are so neat and tiddy and I can see it being reflected on your repairs as well, it's nice how some generic qualities like organization and patience can be extrapolated to all kinds fields and are always useful. All this to say, you are great at what you do and you earned my high ass as a suscriber.

That shell piece that's broken - I have a brand new one in the same colour that you can have for free if you like. Let me know if you want me to send it. I recently reshelled one of these and ordered 2 by mistake. Reassembling it was incredibly painful, I hate working on the 3ds XL, it is horrific. I also had the same issue with the missing pad on my replacement screen - is that definitely not correct? Mine is missing the screen lens so I assumed that's why my 3D isn't working (I assumed the lens was a polariser).

I feel your pain when it comes to dealing with the ribbon cables on the new 3ds xl. About a year ago I had bought a used one that had a pretty grimy shell so I eventually bought a new shell for it and man was that the most tedious thing. I was so worried I was going to break the cables because of how little room they actually have to fit.

It might be a bit late, but the New 3DS XL has a pretty rare IPS screen variant, and replacing the ips panel by the other panel and vice versa without modifiying the console's software will cause it to have some issues such as, you guessed it, 3d not displaying properly. I've found out about this while looking for and IPS mod for my New 3DS XL

Generally, the non working 3d effect comes with a damaged speaker ribbon cable, the same one that you replaced in other video, in a regular new 3ds. The shell was broken and the hinge was exposed, very likely that the speaker cable is damaged too. Or one of those small cables on the screen's side (one is for the backlight, the other is for the 3d effect) is not properly connected.

Love your videos. You inspired me to refurbish my teal Game Boy Color. It was dropped and has had vertical lines on the screen for 15+ years. I put in a backlit TFT screen and a see through orange shell. I love it. Also, hope you aren't ordering parts from China during this time of Pandemic. If you did, be safe man.

what I saw on my upper screens ribbon cables on the 3ds's and I also read about this. the missing pad on the top screen ribbon cable is missing on all screens for the n3dsxl as I noticed. it must've been a normal thing to be missing. even if you see pictures on ebay of replacement screen and zoom you'll notice the missing pad on the ribbon cable. the issue with the 3ds in video must be related to other things. it can be really difficult to repair a n3ds or n3dsxl or any 3ds. Btw I'm a big fan of your channel and videos. keep em coming.

Might be a good opportunity to do some experiments on gluing and puttying (that ain't a word), and sanding the broken plastic. Never know, what future repair project might not have plastic shells not available. :)

Love the channel, makes for cosy viewing! I have a question, you mentioned about checking the motherboard to see if it was bust and thus making the whole thing a right off. Does that ever happen? Like you start preparing a video only to realise that it's a no go as soon as you open the console up? Cheers.

yknow, just as a tip from a longtime viewer, I recommend you make a repair shop type of business, you could make lots of money just off your reputation alone, and extra fundings besides from Patreon to have higher funds for more videos for the fans!! You’re really good with these type of electronics and sees success in you, love your vids Elliot

Watching all these repairs videos makes me wonder how I didn't break my tablet of 6 years yet. It still works well. A Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. Even the battery still has a reliable 45% I can use before voltage falls too low and it cuts + reboots. Hoping to squeeze a few more years out of it.
