    i too can appreciate the professional approach , but that does not change the fact that rtx 4060 and 4060Ti are complete garbage for current prices . the mid range generational "uplift" was never so low / or non existant as it is now . gtx 1060 (6gb version) was on par with gtx 980 when it came out , rtx 2060 was on par with 1080 when it came out , 3060 is where it started to go down hill and it escalated with this generation . these cards can barely beat their direct predecessors and can´t even dream to touch rtx 3080 like previous xx60 cards did to last gens xx80 cards , hell even 4070 struggles to keep up with 3080 in higher than 1080p resolutions . not to mention we are basically stuck on 6-8gb of VRAM since 2016 and to add insult to injury they even lowered the bus width . rtx 4060 should be named 4050 (150-180 dollars) , 4060Ti should be named 4050Ti (200-250 dollars) , 4070 should be named 4060 (300-350 dollars) , 4070Ti should be named 4060Ti (400-500 dollars) , 4080 should be 4070/4070Ti (600-700 dollars) and 4090 should be 4080 (900- 1 000 dollars) . this generation from nvidia is just a trainwreck , the only card that brings significant generational uplift is rtx 4090 but its price is just too high . people can just buy factory new 6700xt for 300-350 dollars these days which is faster than RTX 4060 and it has 12gb of VRAM .

    This was very helpful. Thank you. I also appreciate the fact that you highlighted power consumption. I would add that the lower power consumption of the 4060 series, allows them to go into more PCs, without the need to upgrade PSUs. If you were to look at fps at resolution per watt, I think we'd find the 4060 series actually being rated highly efficient.

    One thing about power consumption and DLSS3, you can lock your fps at the monitor refresh rate (60/120htz) and consume even less power while still maintaining 60 or 120 fps. DLSS3 is also good to reduce power consumption on both cpu/gpu if the draws back doesn't bother you at all or too much and you care about your electric bill.

    Actually no. 4070Ti is where it should be. 3090Ti performance. (4 steps ... not unusual for a high-class card) The real 4070 wasn't launched. It would have had 3080Ti performance. (3 steps) The current 4070 is actually the 4060Ti. 3080 level of perf (3 steps) The 4060Ti is a 4060. 3070 level of perf (2 steps) The 4060 is a 4050-4050Ti. 3060 level of perf (1-2 steps) The higher end cards, always make more steps than lower class cards. So yeah ... the 3050 was 250$ and it was priced bad. That card should have launched at 200, and go for 150 within a few months. On the other hand, it always looked more as a 3050Ti, than an actual 3050. But even so ... Which brings us to this 4060... If it were an actual 4060, they would have priced it 350. They wouldn't go back on pricing less. So they actually went further, a lot further. Instead of 250, which was horrible, they priced it 300. Which is atrocious, considering it should have launched at 200 and go down to 150 pretty fast. AMD isn't a lot better either. F*** their 7600 at 250. That should be 200 too.

And it's going to cost 200$ (50$ cheaper than the RTX 3050 at launch), when in fact it should be a 100$ card, because I doubt it will need a PCIe 6 pin power adaptor plugged into it, and be limited at 75W. Which is nice ... I mean ... let's say you have an old PC and your GPU can't even start up the games. Buy this baby, plug it in, try out some games and if you like them, get a nice GPU that can actually play them. This is what the 1650 actually was intended for. To upsell the 2060/2070. At 100$, it wouldn't be a bad buy. But at 200$ I expect my games to be playable, like the 4060 delivers. They can do it. Their margins are through the roof. Perhaps NVIDIA is adopting Intel's past tick-TOCK CPU upgrade sequence for its GPUs? (eff -PERFORMANCE) Just kidding 😉. But this card would have been large improvement over that card. 8g 128 bus brings it down to 4050 level like it or not. But NVIDIA can name their cards anything they want but we do not have to buy them. My point here is with the RTX 3060 8g and 12g 192 bus which was a great cards. I would have to research it again but there is a way to permanently allocate up to either 4 or 8 GB (I think it is 8) of system memory (real time system memory) that will act as GPU memory when gaming. I did a lot of research after trading my Steam Deck for an Acer Nitro 5 with RTX 3060 and I can run any game out there on High graphics (not all graphics even need to be on high) but regardless at a 60+ frame rate minimum. CyberPunk too. It is super graphics intensive for some reason. I have a RTX 2070 Super 8 GB in my desktop that can't handle what the laptop can, but I did not allocate the memory either. So research and try the memory first. Great review.

  • @WickedRibbon

    @WickedRibbon

    Жыл бұрын

    It's not possible to do this on Desktop with a dedicated GPU because VRAM and system RAM are not shared. Also, latency is huge when fetching from system RAM - something we notice when a card runs out of video memory and performance takes a sharp nose dive. Memory allocation is certainly more configurable on a laptop, but only when using an APU that relies on system ram for video memory.

  • @DarthChewie

    @DarthChewie

    Жыл бұрын

    The latency difference between VRAM and RAM is outrageous. This is shown clearly when games run out of VRAM on a card and games start to massively stutter to the point of being virtually unplayable. Allocating extra system memory is not going to help a lack of VRAM. It's also worth noting that the RTX 2070 Super in your desktop has DOUBLE the memory bus of the RTX 4060 (256-bit vs 128-bit) and the RTX 3060 in your Acer has a 50% larger memory bus (192-bit vs 128-bit) meaning memory bandwidth becomes a large bottleneck as well, not just VRAM capacity. I think your research has left you a bit short on relevant info.
