The Crownland title might be the best looking Atari 8-bit game ever. Parallax, colorful backgrounds, detailed characters, transparencies, etc.

ALLEY CAT 🐈 meows one of my favorite games 😺👍🕹️. I have played it a lot on my old PC back in the 1990's 😹😺👍🕹️. I also still have the other games... - BOUNTY BOB STRIKES BACK - BRUCE LEE - ZORRO ...for my Commodore 64 as the tape versions 😺👍🕹️. This video deserves a big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.

The Atari version of Alley Cat has extremely better graphics and sound. The IBM PC version is really poor.

Some people are watching this out of nostalgia; I am enjoying this because I missed out on Atari computers. My parents bought us the 2600 and lots of cartridges, but never wanted to spend money on computers. I got a computer much later in life, so I am grateful to watch here and am considering getting the mini.

Get the MINI! or setup Launchbox, download the entire Homesoft .xex file library and import the whole thing. You'll be able to pick out the best games to play on your MINI.

This was great! A great trip down memory lane, reminding me of the games I used to spend hours playing as a kid, and that heavily influenced my 40 year game dev career. Miner 2049er, Mr. Robot & his Robot Factory (the level editor) and Jumpman were HUGE influences on me and my games. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

So many of my favourites are listed!!! Miner 2049er (Bounty Bob's easier cousin), Jumpman & Jumpman Jr (Which I consider the best video games of the 8-bit era, and one that I have played at least once a week for 40 years.), Goonies (and it's wonderful puzzles), Lode Runner (runner up for greatest 8-bit era game), and Montezuma's Revenge, all defined what I call a "platformer'. Notably missing from your compilation, but where the box appeared in the opening, is Spelunker, which really deserved to be in this first compilation with the better platformers for the system. It had me hooked for months. My only complaint is when I completed it after a couple hours of non-saveable gameplay, it simply says "Congratulations . You have completed Spelunker" (or something similar). One of lifes bigger dissapointments (even Microsoft Solitaire gives me fireworks!) BUT the game is so entertaining, I simply restarted and played again. Was VERY sorry it was not included. as I put it in with Jumpman, Miner 2049er & Lode Runner as my top 4 favourite 8-bit games.

I have Spelunker in a list of the best "action platformers" there is much overlap though in genres on the A8 though as they were just being created and nothing needed a clear delination like people must have today.

@@IntoTheVerticalBlank I look forward to watching that video... Although it can't be any better than this one. Disagree though that games need greater deliniation today. I don't think about Tomb Raider being an action platformer or Portal being a platform puzzler, I just think of them as good games. My cartridge collection is sorted by publisher and then alphabetical. Genre is a distant consideration. Back in the day, seeing Brōderbund, Epyx, or Synapse on the box spoke more to whether I'd like a game than what specific genre it could be pidgeon-holed into...

Albert looks absolutely amazing! It’s a pity that it’s not ported to Atari ST, we deserve it! Crownland seems to be ported, the autor published some screenshots and video of an ST port project, but I think it was finaly abandoned, nothing else was said about it. Amyway, fantastic video as usual!

I think the ST can easily handle both its competent hands. I did see the Crownland video a while back and loved the Pokey emulation on the ST. As always. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a nice comment. Simple acts like these make this videos worth the effort!

Albert, Crownland and Mario's NTSC colors don't do just but excellent choices! In my opinion RGB, Time Wizard, Night Knight, Ridiculous reality, Betty Issues, Mighty Gill off and Excelsor are top platform games for the system. Also Rockman with its fine animation, game play and groovy music is up there . Other suggestions for future videos are Bomb Jack, Gacek(newer bomb jack version), D.I.T.C.H, the classic Mousetrap and Henry's House, Deimos, Treasure Island Dizzy, Montezuma's Redux(great version), Crystal Raider and of course Pang(the arcade port)even if the platforms come in later levels. Some Polish platform games that have really good elements(Music and sprites) are Smus, Technus Techologic Soldier, Vicky, Wloczykij and Crazy Cat with the "Sonic-like" scrolling. Tony, Drudarium and Wonderboy(playable demos) also deserve a mention. Polar Pierre, Crumble Crisis 1&2 are fun too and the amazing Flob.

@@IntoTheVerticalBlank Maybe it's the Launchbox's settings (Albert) because the shades of "grass'' are the only issue .Nice to hear you like the titles in the list! There are so many really good titles especially from the post commercial era of the machine in Europe. Here are some more games with great music and above average graphics to select for your future videos : Agonia, Alchemia, Aurum,Artefakt Przodkow, Basil the Great Mouse Detective , Biscuits in Hell!, Black Lamp, Blinky's Scary School , Bomb Fusion, Cartfall, Cavernia, Caveman, Deathland, Dimo's Dungeon (the only platform game from the series), DudeStory(new), Dwie Wieze, Flimbo's Quest (wip), Fluid-Kha, Fred, Hans Kloss,Hobgoblin _ V1.0,Hot and Cold Adventure (130 XE), Jaskiniowiec, Kernaw, Kowalsky's Fury 1&2, Monty on the Run, Pondering About Max's - The Dream , Ruff and Reddy,SABOTEUR, Space Rider (hi-tec software 1990), Plan B, Gilp,Breath of the Dragon , Crypts of Egypt , Shit Head in the Space Temple.

I played Mr Robot a lot. Also had Draconus. Bruce Lee was one of the initial bundle of 4 games that I got with my 800XL for Christmas '85. Surprising as it may seem, I've never played Miner 2049 or Bounty Bob. It's something I have to rectify once we finish decorating the bedroom in a way that I can hopefully set up one of the systems I have in the attic. IIRC Mr Robot also had a level editor. Another good game I played for the first time only a few years ago was Jet Boot Jack.

Why do you say Bounty Bob Strikes Back is 1984, at the same time as showing the copyright screen saying 1985? As I wrote in Wikipedia, it was shown at the January 1985 CES, with ads in magazines appearing March/April 1985.

I probably wrote it down wrong. You are right, 1985. Sorry. Great job on the Wiki, at least I didn't just read off the wiki and not give credit like most people do =) Maybe I should have this time.
