in Russia, we do not use pliers to bite the wire, we use cable cutters for this, I have a Weidmuller KT8 for this, including up to 35mm2

Great video mate. I bought a fair of those Crescent pliers a year ago with the side cutters, haven’t used them since as they were awful. I reckon I got a set of those Wattmaster cross cut pliers with the side cutters but they have dark blue handles instead and might be a 1000V rated. I’ve also got some other pair of pliers that’s a Crescent but has a yellow handle and is pinch cut. What pliers do you recommended in terms of needle nose pliers?

Really liked the video and good comparison for sure. Would love to see more of these maybe installation pliers and side cutters ?

@@AddictedtoTools I own and use the knipex “euro” installation pliers and have seen other versions here and there online so am mainly intrigued how they would stack up against each other in this format as I never used a other brand of those. Myself I run the veto MP1X pouch and hate putting tools in my work pants pockets So installation pliers for my are the go to as they replace my needle nose, combo pliers and side cutters ( do have a small pair of knipex side cutters for Tyraps in there too) Also being in Europe using round cable and wago’s I don’t need the wide head for twisting. ( side note I learned to combine all wires in the cable in one Wago on ruff in compared to your twist and tape. Same principle ) I like you honest personal take on it in this video Not claiming a definitive verdict but just a solid opinion

Good stuff. I’ll keep a look out for other installation pliers. With the twist and tape options, are you also running ring circuits and only having 2 cables per outlet. I believe plant places do this so it makes it a little safer. Always good to see what others are doing.

Learned it off an old spark years ago while on bigger sites as a last resort fail safe against stupid mistakes. Better to pop a breaker when someone F’s up then to have a live openend cable hanging about. But to be honest I see most just use one Wago for each wire in domestic / smaller sites. As it’s easier to track the cables. Might just be more of an old school thing here these days did learn it like 25 years ago.

Not many electricians here in the USA use it, but I do because I'm both a gun owner and an electrician. It's good stuff. So are the Inox products made in Australia.

I definitely want to get my mitts on the NWS 5746… can you double check that part number I’m not getting any results on the longer pliers… seems that the 205mm is the top length for NWS combi/linesman’s when it comes to current availability. Could the 5746 have been discontinued?

Could I use the NWS and Fujiyas like hammers like i do the kleins? I wanna grab knipex, but ive heard about them getting fucked up and start to slip after using them as beaters like we so in the US

Got to admit the NWS stuff is class for the money! Used knipex since the 90s and ended up with NWS as that’s the best I could get in stock in a emergency and now that’s all I use

Really interested in the Fujiya, especially for their price-performance. In the USA, been using the insulted knipex linesmans and really enjoyed them, but they are just biiiiiiiiig. The fujiya just seem sleek, nimble, and a ton of value.

I think the lengths listed are for the bare tool or maybe the simple dipped handle.

Do you think the channel lock handles will fit on the wiha pliers. Love my channel lock blue grips but not loving the wiha grips. Would love to combine the 2

I though the thousand volt rated means the shoulder. Hence why all the shown 1000v rated pliers have them. They're all tested to the same voltage I believe. Love the video. Definitely a cross cut fan aswell.

I have the blue Fujiyas. I think they're by far the best set of pliers you can get for $50. Once you get used to them, they're so easy to handle with the slim handles and you get a heap of leverage because they're a little longer than others. They're perfect straight out of the pack, smooth and loose action, snap shut on every cut. I've cut through screws with them and still no light comes through the cutting jaws when you hold them up. I ordered the yellow 1000v wattmaster cross cuts, made in taiwan unlike the japanese wattmasters which was a little dissapointing and stiff to open and close. Another great buy was the VDE NWS pliers in the single pack from bunnings, they were better than the double or triple plier pack but no longer on their website

It looks like Milwaukee are making NWS pliers now... I have a pair of NWS 225's from bunnings that I've been using for 5 years or so now. Fantastic!

Cant believe no Gedore and Bahco pliers? These two are probably the only ones to compete with Knipex..

Maybe try a litle bit of valve grinding compound in the frozen channellocks?

Sick vid. Agreed, crescent is horrible to use, handles are yuk. Channellock for me, still have my set from apprentice days Tho I’m due for a new set so maybe will have a look at the Wiha Everyone I supply seems to use Wiha at the moment and I had heard the new channelocks are no good too

Knipex range is so good! Such high quality, but for us Aussies, the pliers aren't as comfortably suited to what we do. Just my two cents.

man, I also rock the happy meal pliers. Doing the what you shouldn't do, cutting screws and stuff, the NWS just stay sharp. Yeah i copped a bit on site when I got them, however, they have outlasted channelocks and such. I have had prolly 50 pairs of pliers over the years and the cheap happy meal pliers have been the best. Not in the sense of throw away, they last. with the channelocks locking up, what causes that is if a strand of flex gets stuck the rotating bit they lock up. Only way I know to free them up is spend ages to work them till they expend the strand. Theyre overpriced and underperform anyway.

American electricians have a habit of using their linemen's pliers as hammers and thinking bigger is better. I've been getting away from that. Kleins, especially the journeyman series, are good for many commercial and industrial applications, especially as they withstand drops from heights well, but if all you're doing is cutting NM cable and twisting wire then you're probably better off with the Marvels...or a smaller cable cutter like the Russian guy uses. If you cut a lot of metallic cable then a heavy pinch cutter makes sense, but even robust cutters like the Kleins will wear out faster cutting MC every day. For MC I've been using the Klein BX Cutter model 1104 since 2016. You just nip the cable cladding, twist and pull, and then make your cuts through the insulated wire. So...I might give the Marvels or a similar pair of pliers a try.

*American Weird to see Knipex called heavy. I love my Knipex. They live in my belt which I don’t use for much except trimming out. I work service mostly so just carry my tote where my heavy Kleins live. They’re my old junkyard dogs. HD2000 9NE. Holding the Knipex after holding the Klein’s and I barely feel the bastards. Lol

Cross cuts all the way i did see you are missing the yellow handle wattmasters pretty much the marvels with the channel lock handles

Not a sparky but have a pair of nws on the boat for cutting big hooks out stuff and cutting hardened steel hooks one handed is not easy task

Oh btw, knipex pliers only for me - that’s all I’ll use. Surprised they are so heavy as they weigh the least out of any American linesman

I have noticed a lot of the American linesman are larger and heavier. But then you usually use strippers for fitting off. Is that correct?

Yes guys always carry a set of strippers. Unless they have some sort of a hybrid plier. Klein makes one and they are much smaller and lighter then a normal set of linesmen’s but are not as good when used as a hammer lol

​@@scotthill4742 after using kleins for years and switching to knipex the only thing I miss is being able to hammer shit. Lol Knipex cuts better with that satisfying snap, feels lighter, is generally more comfortable and doesn't gum up over time requiring lube as often like kleins do but doesn't work well for hammering. Kleins can handle a bit more abuse for sure though.

@@AddictedtoTools There is only 2x for sale in Australia atm and they're on Ebay, I just bought one of them in case they have been discontinued or no longer shipped to AUS.

As an electrician from the US, I don't know anyone here that considers the Crescent linesman pliers to be OG. They're they adjustable wrench guys and that's about it. For me, I use Klein, Channellock (high leverage non-1kv), and Wiha linesman pliers. For the work I do which is mostly industrial, I use 1KV linesman pliers when it's warranted, but if I'm just pulling fish tape or other rough work, I use non-rated pliers. I love Southwire pliers for residential stuff I've done on my home. Their specialized strippers for Romex were a game changer.

Hey Matt. Would love to see your opinion on the Trojan pliers at Bunnings. $25, lifetime warranty, and 1000V rated. Although not the loosest or the sharpest, they are an excellent entry item

The Trojans were my first pair as an apprentice and they were easily the worst pliers I've ever used. Better than nothing, but not by much. They're really not worth it in my opinion

Keep in mind... When looking at stuff from Bunnings?... They're not intended for the full time tradies. They advertise on TV for starters (everything's online now!) Tradies are watching targeted videos and the algorithms are learning what's valuable to them. Which means specialist, informed and educated advertising. (Not diy quick fix or "doing the best you can with what you have" type market.) Bunnings are not serious about selling you a quality, well engineered product! They want to sell you Ryobi! (A compromise!)

@@AddictedtoTools sounds like a good idea for those who maybe just want a set laying in a storage cupboard. That’s what I’ve got those Trojans for, but Sydney Tools also have their Xtorque for $10!! Also 1000V rated but would assume they are much like the Aldi and would only use in a pinch. I run the NWS 225s and both the red and the orange Marvels. Good to see we are on the same page. Would like to give that handle change a go on the Marvels but not rich enough to get a pair of channelocks just to try it.

Black and gold for me for side cutters and lineman. I do like the flush cut version better and hold up well. Sadly I can't get marvels in the US even az jp it would cost me almost 100 us. On thr insulated front 20 percent are 1k rated in my techpack and u have more than the average American. I do prefer dipped knipex handles super slim and fits more tools in the bag by quite a bit. My most used pliers I'd say knipex instalation pliers 12/14g though I'm jealous of the eu spring loaded version. Don't worry even in usa thoes milwaukee pliers even the made in USA ones are kinda a joke just hd trash among the people I meet. Thoea in the know buy real pliers nws rebrands or knipex.

We don’t use this type of pliers here in france ;( Because we don’t work with flat câble (it’s not sale here..) and we use rigid câble with pinch connector on everything . Not we don’t need screwdriver in outlet, socket, interuptors or panels… We use wire in a plastic sheath or rond cable. I use crosscut plier like knipex electrician or a pinch cut with my wiha tricut in plastic boxes. The crosscut of the fujima is rond and I think it will be better with our rond câble like my knipex 1376200 ;) For me the US,UK and AUS méthod is boring to no very Time consuming … Now we work With a Pz2 screwdriver and an electricien plier for 90% of the job here in france ;)

Crescent had it's start around 1907, fantastic tools till around 1960,when they got sold. Turns out the quality soon went south as they say. Now all made in China from chicken wire and used yugo cars.

Knipex is the best

OG MVA-200s forever anything else borders on patent infringement IMO

For pliers Knipex are No1 and then places empty.. I was using meny of them but Knipex are the best Made in Germany. Wiha is Made in Vietnam

Channel locks are brutal for cutting. They just done have the leverage to cut anything bigger then a #8 awg or a 10 mm
