My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

Because there are 2 words beginning from the "Ё" which come to my mind: "ёж" and "ёлка" (a fir-tree). When you need to use a swear expression using an euphemism you may say: "Ёкарный бабай! (yOkarniy babAy!)" or "Ёшкин кот! (yOshk'in kot!)". The Babay is an evil being in the guise of an old man who frightens children and the Yaga's cat is a pet of BAba YagA - a witch who lives in the forest and eats children.

Question: Why is the Russian word for hedgehog useful vocabulary? Are hedgehogs running rampant in Moscow streets? Is there an approaching hedgehog apocalypse? Or is "hedgehog" a euphemism for some common Russian lascivious conduct? Just curious.

as russian, i have no idea but fun fact, our alphabet goes like г, д, е, ё, ж (где ёж)("ёжик" is the same world, but its like baby hedgehog, or just if your want to say it more cute) which makes a phrase literally translating like "wheres hedgehog?"

Can anyone help me to understand why the words 'bell' and 'hedgehog' and the phrases ''come to the surface' and 'once upon a time' are on this list of 'useful vocabulary for beginners'? is there some special russian usage of these words? also, the word 'zdrasvuyte' is in the list twice, so it's only 29 words, or am I missing something?

the presentation and explanations were quite good . Too bad that many of the words were not so necessary for a beginner to start to get by in the language (hedgehog, bell, darling, and a few others are not so useful). It would be a more useful video if you keep the same style and replace some of the not so necessary words for other far more useful ones . Very good teaching style and method , om the other hand

@@cherchezlafamme2400 - isn't it just "Your face is beautiful" without Мне and with it is more "Your face is beautiful to me" or "I find your face beautiful" with мне? I am still trying to understand the more poetic nuances of Russian word use and order.

For it to be grammatically correct: Твое лицо красивое (adjective in neuter since "face" is gender neutral in Russian, literally "your face beautiful" but using grammatical cases, something English has largely lost, so it isnt as weird as it sounds)! Большое спасибо, Катя! "Мне" isnt used here, but the explanation requires learning quite a bit of Russian grammar. If you wanted to specifically say "to me", you would be forced to put something like "In my eyes" at the beginning. This can be done in many ways, but generally, it is superfluous; "Your face is beautiful" already implies that the speaker is the one who finds it beautíful :)
