The tip about lowering textures down is absolutely criminal. Textures are the best bang for your buck for the fps cost per quality increase

There are countless other graphics settings (like bloom and reflections) that you should try turning off before what they recommend. Higher quality textures will give you better bang for the buck than almost any other setting, as long as you don't over-extend what your GPU's memory can hold. As for anti-aliasing, don't turn it off entirely, but keep it at a very minimal setting; it helps a lot with the quality and you get most of the benefit with the fastest settings.

Wait I thought I was supposed to make it look like flames or racing stripes?

What I usually do is normally turn shadows to the lowest setting helps allot
Undervolting would be a good Recommendation
Additionally, you can use overclocking tools to undervolt and reduce temperatures, while boosting performance at the same time since the card is less likely to thermal-throttle.
in the case of dlss/fsr, not all games support it, however I use something called lossless scaling off of steam and it has an fsr option
I always have a rule to never drop texture quality or anti aliasing if i can help it, i always tweak other things because texture clarity is the most important to me
I'd have to buy a new card to get DLSS though. Then again, I don't have to bother turning RTX off since the card doesn't support it to begin with.

I like a good undervault with turning the odd setting down like shadows from ultra, keeps the pc running nice and quiet while not losing any frames from stock and saves 50w in game
Shadows are always the first graphics effect I turn off for performance. They only look good on the highest settings and most games have enough other lighting effects that you won't see the difference when you're invested in the gameplay. That being said, depth of field and bloom always get turned off by default. Most games way over use them and make it hard to see what you're doing while also impacting performance.
would love to see an updated overclocking video

Why isn't no one talking about this ?!
This is all great advice but with some horrible misdirection. DLSS and FSR can be used on most if not all games/GPUs. Some have it natively, some you can mod it into (depending on the game engine). Also don’t change core and mem clock at the same time let alone that much. Start with core, increase 10-20 and run Kombustor until it crashes or shows artifacts, then increase mem clock by 10-20 until the same thing happens. THEN decrease by 10-20 respectively and you will have a very stable OC card.
Msi afterburner also has an OC scan that will OC in about 30m. It is decent. DLSS for sure, but game dependent because of ghosting problems or blurry foliage. Anti-aliesing is always on, so edges aren't rough or glimmers. Shadows and lighting for sure can go down to help the performance, though. My own little take.
Other tips for more preformance: Close background programs when gaming, monitor temperatures to make sure ur not throttling
@brianfox340

Yes! This is the first place to look. Thermal throttling is real, and closing background apps is the easiest thing possible.

I love the part where he showed and fsr
For the GPU overclock: the core clock is usually pretty much maxed Out from Stock. The memory clock not so much. Most gpus i overclocked we're running perfectly fine with +700 to +1000 MHz on the memory. Also, I wouldn't recommend overclocking the newer gpus, because they are running close to max performance and drain a huge amount of power and therefore create lots of heat. I am personally running my 1080ti at 75% power and paired with lower voltages through curve editor and a memory oc of +800mhz, i only lose 5% performance while never drawing more then 200 watt (before, it drew about 250w)
I want to add checking temps BEFORE trying most other things. It's easy to do, and thermal throttling of performance is real.
Going down one shadow level is usually what I do, in cyberpunk I just lowered the cloud/fog setting
What about RGB?

Oh man, legend !
Things that effect lighting like ambient occlusion and Shadow settings eat the most fps when dealing with low to mid cards. But yes, MSI Afterburner is a must.
About fsr. Doesn't matter the gpu brand, only if it's supported
Also fsr can be used on any gpu
"It might make your game look potato, but at least the game Playdough." I fail to see the improvement.
@DenseMelon

lol
You can use fsr on any gpu
and although rare some games that are cpu intensive ex. Star citizen get better performance when general graphics settings are set to very high/high because the higher settings will begin to offload more onto the gpu rather than keep it all on the cpu.
Decrease Shadows/Light, Ambient Occlusion, TAA and other extras and it should be fine. Textures doesnt do much, so keep em high 🔥
This is super helpful
Bro thx that was more helpful than every 15+ min video 😅
You can enable frame generation with lossless scalling and have stable 60 fps (you need to have stable 30 to do so)
fsr is really noticable with vega 8, because you're already at a low res
FSR also works on old Nvidia GPUs, that's amazing
RTX + DLSS = Life could be dream
On some games, shadows are drawn inefficiently and reducing shadow quality gives a considerable FPS boost without a noticeable visual difference. Unfortunately on other games, low-quality shadows are jaggy and horrible and/or don't help performance at all, so... it's really a case by case thing.
Tip: Dlss and fsr actually increases input lag and latency, but if you're getting low fps then you can turn it on if you want to. Hope this tip helped!
why would you recommend to lower textures? textures don’t affect FPS, only uses up VRAM, so unless you are VRAM capped, it does absolutely nothing
I love how relatable this guy is boosting fps from unplayable rate to a playable rate instead of others that start with an extremely good fps to an ungodly amount of fps
Does Msi afterburner work on dell?
Could you guys do a video like this for old cards or even cheap cards for us gamers that just have no budget???? Edit, I just got my hands on a Radeon HD 7570 1gb ddr5 card for my pc for something better than the built in graphics and I also have a Radeon HD 7770 in my other more powerfully pc which has done good for me but I know there r ways to make them run just a little better. Make sure you get the official msi afterburner though. There's a lot of mining viruses and stuff bundled out there.
If I had DLSS to turn on, or RTX to turn it off, I wouldn't need extra fps would I?
Kenny u know Houdini died taking punches to the stomach. Glad u have gear on
forgot the part about stopping msi afterburner from starting with windows while tuning the overclock
What about resizable bar?
"Three ways most gamers already know about to boost FPS"
And turn on 4G decoding in bios, that helped me a lot
Regarding overclocking though? Some parts are built to be overclocked while others aren't so might wanna do some homework before just deciding to do it. Plus do remember overclocking does put more strain on the part so beware it'll possibly reduce it's lifespan.
Do you have tips for fps drops?

On Windows 11, disable Fullscreen optimizations by default in Windows settings under system > display > graphics.
I use DLSS plus supersampling in some games, to get sharpness back to the image. And helps lower the AA tax (I’m looking at you, the last two Tomb Raider games)
Why does nobody mention turning off motion blur tho?
Thought they would mention cooling.
U forgot to mention dlss is only for the Rtx lineup
RSR also, but that is kind of lowering settings (resolution).
Yeah, overclocking the GPU may also lead to graphics glitches in games without crashing in benchmarks, so look out for that too. I got sick of it, so I stopped overclocking.

(numbers apply to everything NVIDIA thats relatively current gen). For starting numbers feel free to do some google search. However: Keep in mind that Memory OC doesn't bring as much improvement as Core OC, and sometimes a too agressive Mem OC can hurt your Core OC (which should be prioritized). The 10mhz increments given in the video are BS, as for the Memory you'll be sitting for YEARS until you hit max. Make sure to test your OC. If it can do a 3D Mark Run and a 3D Mark Stability Test it's usually fine for 98% of the cases
