Personally, I think it could have done with a more muted blue. Something to take the brightness down a notch, and let the vibrancy of the armor do the work.

Just gave the "flicking paint with a toothbrush" method a try. Really surprised me how well it worked. Considering they are human-proportion modern soldiers, I could never have replicated that with a brush. Completed them in minutes. The foam chunk method is next. Thanks for the motivation.

I like using feathering style techniques on horns and stuff. you apple some paint, and then pull the paint down into another colour further down the horn (with a damp brush) it's quite easy to become proficient at, and it's gives you a quick blend. also it's a one way blend, these work better on horns IMO (I paint a lot of chaos)

  • @uriance88

The sponge technique works well for camo because it creates random enough patterns to mimic the random patterns in most camo patterns - and is a really good proxy for digi-cam.

First of all, Thank you for showing my Luke! A couple years ago, I'd helped my daughter with her Eldar Flier (can't remember the name). She was all bummed that the paint skill didn't transfer genetically, so I showed her a few tricks including a combination of the Speckle and Sponge techniques used here. Looked great, and I'll try to find it to show off lol

I hadn't considered doing zenithal in colors other than black and white, this deserves some testing, recently saw some ghosts painted with fluos and now i think that a version of this scheme with purples and blues might look great, must test it. Also the other methods look far better than you'd expect with the techniques involved, definitely something to apply!

I've tried to make a camopattern for my bolt action fallschrimjäger by basecoating them with a kind of zandri dust tone, then aplying random patches of dark green and medium brown, leaving about 50% of the zandri dust showing. Then I took a toothpick to apply littel dots with different colors. The zandridust and darkgreen dots in the brown patches and zandridust and brown dots in the green patches. The toothpick created evenly sized dots for a better result. The result looked like a "hinterhalt-tarnung".

Part of why camo ghost pops is you (maybe unintentionally?) did some smart color theory things. Green and red are complimentary. Opposite ends of the color spectrum. And because you did more of a pink than a red, it avoids that Christmas feel. It just draws the eye.

I just brought an airbrush for $15 and a 2nd hand make up/cake decorating compressor for $20 and just went wild on a Imperial knight Valiant the same day I got it through the post with no idea what I was doing and never used an airbrush before, the results are on my Instagram airbrush.cowboy it's not actually that bad for a first time 1 day paint job. I don't like drybrushing and washing so it's all airbrush shadows and highlights apart from some thinned oil paint used on the metals for a sort of rusty wash.
