Hi Scott. I started shooting a sighted recurve with a split finger. After a time, I shot a longbow three under because of the way the longbow was tillered. I went back to split finger in order to compete in a field archery event that did not allow for three under with a longbow. Now, I am shooting an Asian horsebow with a thumb draw. I seem to prefer the thumb draw of all three. However, I still practice with the split finger and three under from time to time, just so I don't forget. Great video, by the way. The insights are simple but instructive.

Brother, that's more talent than I possess . I've thought about trying thumb draw, but do not think I would be able to without using a low weight draw. Split finger seems to work best for me. I like split finger better myself, but the bottomline is do what feels best for you ... I agree, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself! I'm also just a back yard shooter who just loves shooting my bows!

I had the same problem too. I went back to split finger to feel more comfortable. Ill have to adress that again as I watch the pros that shoot 3 under. Still a lot more fun than compound shooting- don't you think? Watch Tom Clums video about back tension - sure helped me!

Ted, agreed even with the learning curve, traditional archery is much more enjoyable to me as well. Once i made the switch to split finger i haven't gone back, other than to prove to myself that im not very good at it LOL. I will certainly check out the video. Always willing to learn and grow. 3 under has never been used historically for warfare. Split finger is a luxury of intellectual discussion.

Yes, I've been wondering about that, they probably didn't use finger tabs, just bare fingers. So I've been shooting split finger and no finger protection. Yes it hurts but if it hurts too much I will use a tab.

Thank you my friend! I really appreciate the time you invested watching the video. The glove im using is the American Leathers Big Shot glove. These gloves are amazing. At the time of purchase I think mine was 70 dollars, some one commented that they are going for about 50 to 55 dollars now. If you get one you will not be disappointed.. they also offer sizing help if you are unsure about the size needed. You have the same problem as me: an automatic release when you hit full draw (very bad habbit) and no shot control. Working on it would be extremely hard, but if you fix it, you'll see great improvment in groupings, I promice.

I use a two point anchor, if you could call it that. the tip of my index finger at the corner of my mouth and the second knuckle of my thumb at the back curve of my jawbone. Thanks for asking my friend. Have a great day. Best regards

I could try it and see if it works for me. I used to have a very bad habit of catching the tip of my nose with my string when I released. Not fun LOL. I will let you know if it works for me. Thanks for the tip my friend. Have a great evening.

Hey man nice video. I always try to switch to 3 under but just find too many things that bother me with it. I get too focused on aiming down the arrow and the bow noise is a lot louder. So I am just sticking with split finger. I was just wondering if you could tell me a little bit about your anchor point. I wear glasses just like yours almost and I cannot find a good spot on my face where the string is out of the way of the lens. The string always seems to contact the glass on my glasses and it pushes the glasses on my face. How/where do you anchor to avoid the string touching your glasses? Thanks!

It's a 40 lbs draw weight. At my full 30 inch draw it hits about 43 lbs.
