    Ignition was "the piece" that year - every so often there is a concert band work that comes out that everybody and their mother puts into their show for the GE and Music points and you have to think that a lot of these bands do not see/hear each other until Grand Nats, so its not super uncommon for designers to pick the same music.

    I will say, there was one year that I saw about 6 different versions of "Les Mis" at circuit championships, and by the time the 5th band performed, everyone was very happy that their "24601" theme wasn't just straight up "Les MIs" but really neat resettings of some of the thematic moments from the show.

  • @6band

    @6band

    8 ай бұрын

    I highly doubt it. Bands would be easily called out and be practically shunned by the entire community very quickly, especially a band with the national popularity of Flomo. Although that money does fs go into hiring good experienced show designers to give them a big competitive advantage

    Usually the same songs get a new composition from a different composer, but when this happens these “epic” sections get left alone and repeated. You’ll see a lot of last year medaled shows get used by a different school the following year, although it’s not always a great out come

    For those who may not truly understand why, it’s not a underground woodwind conspiracy. Although that would be kind of cool. Most bands use stock “original” arrangements. And as long as they are not within a certain mileage of each other, or maybe different circuits, etc. they can purchase these original songs. Very similar to how musicals work. Or is supposed to work.

  • @ibeef
    @ibeefКүн бұрын

    I hate the way BOA is ran. You’ve got smaller schools like mine, that are on the brink of making semi-finals every year but because of class representatives and what not we never get to go. We literally beat a band by score one year for a spot in semis, but because they were representatives they got to go in. Then you have these 600 member texas bands that just can’t even be competed with…

  • @6band

    @6band

    Күн бұрын

    I agree… but I think the problem is more with funding than BOA itself. Yes Class Reps are ridiculously stupid and the rule definitely needs changes. But imo the problem with the ultra competitive texas/indiana bands is that they have much more funding/resources. No shots at those programs but they have dozens of staff members and great middle school programs too. This is not a bad thing, I think its great that the culture is so much different from everywhere else, but its how everything should be ideally. Programs are just not at that point right now, ykwim? Also box 5 does not make it easy for the band community to grow but thats a topic for another day

    Do you think they all got their music from the same composer and they wrote in the same woodwind feature to save time? If that’s the case, I am not accusing said composer if laziness or anything like that. It takes a lot of work to write music, and writing 3+ pieces with three or more movements for so many instruments that are all due at generally the same time is… honestly kind of mind boggling. I wouldn’t be able to do it myself, but then again I don’t know if this is the case

You got to play in the box, play music that fits the box, everything is quiet and sounds the same except for a few bands every now and again. Then again why play something impressive and hard when you can have the whole band play mf and never need to take in air. Judge brain.
