    I’d say you’re correct JOM. Number of gear positions on the rear derailleur controlled by the software. Planned obsolescence by the big manufacturers.

    I've had it on my road bike for about a month now, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts but so far I'm very pleased. I bought a 12 speed cassette last week and now my drivetrain is 12 speed.

    💯 correct on drivetrain “limitations” set by SRAM and Shimano. There’s got to be a way to hack them

    The best option is the ability to change each gear's position separately not just a global offset like the big manufacturers. It could been handy at my Rival XPLR rear derailleur's worn mounting screw/shifter body where the inside gears would need offset to the left and outside gears need offset to the right to compensate the excessive wear. Now I am working on a replacement ball bearing mounting screw solution instead of buying a new screw from Sram. It would not work due to the worn out shifter body.

    I really want to try this groupset. And yes the number of gears it will shift, if its within the derailluers mechanical limits is limited in software. Always wondered if shimano derailluers can be hacked for example custom firmware. Never used di2 planning to get grx 825

    Hey Jason, if you decide to pull the trigger, you can use my Amazon link here - amzn.to/4bwYayj - you pay the same price, and I get a small cut to plop into the GC travel slush fund. Hoping to have a build video coming soon, lining up a frame and fork at the moment.

    I'd love to see how well this works with 9&10 speed Campag-know-low (because the spacing for 11 and 12 sp is the same as Shimano) and if you can unscrew those two screws holding down the battery case and see what the specification on the rechargeable batteries is. Worst case is that you can wire a dead battery to recharge it with a rechargeable USB power bank hidden in the frame. Calipers look kind of ugly, though.

    i didn't get it from the video, the only difference between rim and disc version is that they give you the brake calipers and hardware? are the rim and disc levers identical? this would mean that they somehow managed to have both cable pull and hydraulic in the same housing.

  • @GravelCyclist

    @GravelCyclist

    Hello there, rim brake levers are different, they are not a combo of hydro / mechanical cable pull. I don't know if rim brake calipers are supplied.

    @@GravelCyclist I have completed the installation of the Wheeltop EDS TX rim brake version on a 1993 Bill Holland titanium road bike. Straightforward installation of the brakes using the supplied (and installed in the levers) Wheeltop brake inner cables along with conventional outer cable housing to older DuraAce rim brake calipers. Braking system works flawlessly.

    Its a lithium battery. It will last 5-10 years before you get significant drops in capacity. Even after that, it will be good for 40-50 mile rides. IMHO you are going to want to replace the groupset anyway by the time the battery is bad enough to replace.
