    The R and L thing messed me up so much when I got to high school and learned how to write in Spanish 🤯. Bs were actually Vs, Ls were Rs , and S appearing all over the place. I literally had that moment when everything you think you know flashes before you and you question if any of it is even real 😂😂

    ​@@Mandita1392Have you heard Cuban Dominican and Mexicans and other South and CentralAmericans...the big difference is learning Standard Spanish over slang informal Spanish...same rules apply to all Spanish speakers.

    damn i didn’t know truly how similar PR Spanish was to Cuban Spanish, i mean i knew it was similar due to proximity, but being a cuban in the south west, it’s hard to find large groups of spanish-speaking caribbean people good to know 👍

    Dominicans also have slang Spanish but not as bad as us the thing with Dominicans is the speak like their is a timer that shit be rapid fire. I think that’s why it’s hard to understand them they speak to fast. We speak fast to at times but we’re more smooth laid back the way we say shit

Pero (no estoy segura)es debido qué a comienzos dé colonización, fueron hacendados Franceses y se establecieron en el centro de P.R...y los franceses hablan con la L........y los Boricuas dé esa zona sé adaptaron hablar así.     En realidad, es porque los Españoles que emigraron a Puerto Rico eran de las Islas Canarias, así como de la región sur de España llamada Andalucía, y en esas partes hablan español de manera muy similar a como lo hablan los puertorriqueños hoy.

    Escucha un monólogo de Antonia San Juan y oirás que eso no es cierto. El acento canario ya tenía esos rasgos antes de la época de colonización y sigue pareciendo mucho al acento boricua. Además, no creo que tal cosa exista en francés tampoco.

    As an on again off again Spanish learner, the best I have understood a conversation was in Ponce after Hurricane Maria. Because I was in a room with coworkers who’s nationalities were Puerto Rican, Mexican, Texican, Honduran, Venezuelan, Cuban, Nicaraguan, and I’m sure I’m leaving out a few. Everyone had to speak slowly to understand each other.

    I understand Puerto Rican 🇵🇷cause most of my Dominican 🇩🇴used to omit s ,change R for L special people from my city Santo Domingo..Amol(amor). Pol favol (por favor) and they don't use Sss estas said eta that kind of stuffs BTW I am Dominican ...I was born in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴In Santo Domingo..     That used to be me. I just continue to listen, listen, listen. Our ears need "training", which comes with active listening. I used to listen a couple of times, and then put on the subtitles to confirm what I thought. I don't need to to that anymore, but I still struggle when certain people speak. I just try to grab the context when that happens. It'll happen.

    I got in the habit of muffling my S's from people I was around in Honduras. Also pronounce all my Y's and Ll's as "J". So... no clue where it sounds like my Spanish is from. (still learning, btw.)
