3 things when choosing between a 13 inch and a 15 inch laptop

Which laptop size makes more sense? 3 things that you probably have not considered when buying a 15" or a 13" laptop:
1. The longer lifespan of the 15 inch laptop compared to the 13 inch.
2. The better resell value of the 15 inch laptop compared to the 13 inch.
3. Are you carrying your laptop more than you think and/or how much are you using heavy duty programs?

    I just mainly hope that more 16:10 aspect ratio laptops will come out or even replace 16:9 as the default aspect ratio for this segment. It boosts productivity on 13/14 inch laptops by a lot, besides shrinking top and bottom bezels allow the screen to have more vertical space anyway

    the 15 inch most definitely. I’ve used all 3 sizes. The 13, the 15 and the 17 in laptops. 17 is great, but if you’re not moving around that often. 15 is big, and not as small as a 13. 13’s way too small in my opinion to do any work on, but if you’re into 13inch laptops, then sure.

    i7 is just one part of the puzzle - the branding part. You gotta look at the specific model of the i7, the generation and the number of cores it has and the GHz and for how long it can turbo boost without thermal trotteling. In these particular models that I'm holding up the the 13" doesn't even have a i7 - it is a i5-7200U and the 15 inch has a i7-7700HQ. The newer 13" 2018 model got the i7, but it is still different, it is a 8550U with 1.8 Ghz base clock.

  • @ofekluislewinsohn2506
    @ofekluislewinsohn25066 жыл бұрын

    Those things used to be true but most of what you said is starting to be not so relevant. Yes if you want GTX level graphic card and fast qhd quad core, then you should probably opt for something like the XPS 15 you showed. But there are nowadays in between things you can go for. For example the Samsung Notebook 9 15" is lighter than the Dell XPS 13, has more battery life than the XPS 15 and on par battery life with the XPS 13 (~12h real life use) and even better graphics than the XPS 13. So it basically offers all the specs of the XPS 13 in a 15" laptop (plus dedicated graphics) and manages to be even lighter. There are also awesome 14" laptops out there that are as strong as 15".

  • @SiimKuusik

    @SiimKuusik

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, you are correct Ofek about the Samsung Notebook 9 15" is a tiny lighter and may have more real life battery, but that is mostly due to the a bit lower dedicated graphics chip (940MX compared to the 1050) and it's cooling for it. I'm not saying that there aren't laptops out there that couldn't bridge the gap between ALL of the things that I listed - I'm just saying this goes for most of them ;) Feedback very much appreciated still, glad that you brought my attention to the Samsung 9, nice refresh for 2017.

    Olin ka peaaegu ostmas XPS 15 kuni jäi silma Lenovo Yoga 720 15". Pmst sama perf ning ega muus osas ka alla ei jää. Lisaks veel puutetundlik, saab nö tabletiks voltida ning kaasas ka Lenovo Active Pen 2, millega jumala mõnus joonistada või märkmeid teha. Eriti hea on ka sõrmejäljelugeja olemasolu. Ma nüüd ei oska öelda, kas ekraani servad on sama õhukesed nagu XPS 15-l, kuid siiski piisavalt õhukesed, et näha sama "äge" välja nagu XPS 15-l (kahjuks selliseid õhukeste äärtega normaalseid sülearvuteid on üsna vähe, kuid vaikselt tuleb peale). Ja kõik see on tunduvalt soodsam kui XPS 15. Küll aga tuleb tunnistada, et Delli support Eestis on tunduvalt paremal tasemel kui Lenovol. Eriti, kui Delli läppar osta Max poest.

    Yoga 720 on ka üks mõistlik budget masin jaa, ei ole üldse halb valik. 2017 on see väikeste servade trend eriti veel moes, mis on ainult hea muidugi. XPS-i eelis on jah need servad ja muidugi ekraan on puutetundlik 4K, mis on ikka klass omaette.

Acer has been pretty plastic in the past and how sturdy this chassis is left to be seen, but it is aluminium this time around which gives me confidence. The weakest point is the definitely the integrated graphics on the Ryzen chip (meaning an APU) and it doesn't have a dedicated GPU. Again, this is not a problem at all if you daughter doesn't game or plays casual games. Is the SSD 512GB? I think 1TB should be the standard in 2023, but then again if this will be only used as a college notes and some small school projects it will be totally fine. If both 13 inch and 15 inch have the same specs then the power is equal. 13 inch has much better portability and is lighter. They will perform the same. If you're hooking it up to a monitor all the time then the 13 inch is awesome and cheaper in price

  • @SiimKuusik

    The 13 inch and the 15 inch versions of the same laptop have rarely the same specs and speeds since the cooling solution is almost always better on the bigger chassis, where you can put more heatsinks, bigger fans and bigger heatpipes. In some very rare cases where the 13" and the 15" have the same specs and have the same speeds then they engineered the 13 first so that it doesn't thermal throttle and then put the very same thing in a bigger enclosure and just not taking advantage of the bigger room they could have used to put a more performant computer in it.
