I'm gonna be honest, older BP especially tend to think their hair only grows short. Which always baffles me because they always talk about how "long" their hair was when they were younger and they were ironically the people who experienced afros! I don't get it. I honestly don't get why they are yhe most negative when it comes to black hair. And what you said is true, routine is so important and that's the number one thing people should understand in life. Routine gets you very far

That's so kind, thank-you so much ❤️😭
Back in the day if your hair was shoulder length it was considered long in the black community lol, so that’s probably why you may have heard that so much. But I’m with you, I always wondered how to get it past shoulder length. I had a few classmates in elementary school who had hair past their shoulders and I would just look at them in awe, like wow that’s amazing. So I knew it was possible. I didn’t really learn how to grow my hair until I went natural in the early 2000’s. And I’m still learning on this hair journey. Natural hair gives you way more options to be versatile and wear your hair different ways versus a relaxer, where your hair is always straight. There’s so many things you can do with your hair, and with a good routine and diet, it can grow very long. You’re an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your story! 🎉
Ohh congratulations 💚 Same thing happened to me people told me I was delusional wen I decided to grow my hair long. Now they want to know what I do/use I don't share coz I'm that petty (Wen I shared they didn't believe anyway) they just want some hidden elixir for long hair.

Hahaha I love your comment! I have the same experience! When I tell people 'what I do', they sometimes look at me like I'm hiding some kind of secret sauce behind my back lol
I feel you on the never drying. I've just washed and conditioned yesterday, used nothing but a small amount of leave-in, squeezed out excess with a microfiber towel and braided it. It's still damp😅

Slow drying hair is the miracle of Low-Porosity Hair! Yesterday was my wash day. I put my hair is medium twists, and the roots are still damp! However, my hair stays moisturized longer!

Congratulations on the purchase of your first home!👏🥰 Cracking up at the "Your hair was always long." bit. I think for many black people shoulder-length hair is seen as long. I'm not certain that my hair journey has taught me much that applies to my life in general. I can say that one rule I made for myself was not to stray from things that I knew were right for my hair, but to only add things that were of additional benefit. That helped to keep me away from trends. I also followed and still follow ladies whose hair is either my length or longer. That is not to say that those with shorter hair than mine can't spread some knowledge, but I felt that those with longer hair than my own were more likely to have a trick or two that I did not know. Since I wanted to wear my hair loose and in a wash-n-go, I had to stick to more of what my mom taught me until I found someone who was wearing that style and achieved long hair because most of what I heard was negative with regard to retaining length with the style. The way I was able to achieve my goal was by shampooing twice a week, deep conditioning when needed, using botanical gels, and diffusing dry instead of air drying.
