You don't need a License to own a Dog but it is a useful thing to have for matters of insurance or taxes. same goes for health insurance, about 30% of dogs in germany have one but we are still behind in that, in sweden 80% of dogs are ... so in sweden, a greater percentage of dogs have health insurance than humans in the US ... just think about that for a moment...

It is a little bit of definition what counts as license. In Lower Saxony you need a Sachkundenachweis, a proof of general kowledge about dogs.

@@helloweener2007 thats a certificate, not a license ;) certificates have their own set of rules in this case defined by lower saxony in a set of certification requirements, but a license is bound to a legal set of laws, difference being, if you don't uphold the rules you can only be fined but no actual legal action will be taken.

@@helloweener2007 look at it like this, a certificate is a document, that tells that you have mastered whatever was laid out for the certification, a license is a document, that tells you have mastered the requirements for whatever laws are in place for the subject. that's why the legal difference is important also for insurances and law enforcement. So lower saxony having that is a good thing and a step in the right direction, i still would prefer a actual license but it is a lot better than nothing.

One Thing You Wouldn’t See In America - Since The Offender Is Currently Residing In Germany: A Low-Pressure Area Named After...A Whiner! It is well known that the Man-Child has a "tiny" deficiency when it comes to attention. That he has now taken his whining to a new level, however, is outrageous. Thus, with the low-pressure area named “Nick" (high and low pressure areas traditionally are given namess in Germany - unbelieveable, I know) a particularly whiny and annoying Nalf cloud construct has been moving over the "beautiful south" of Germany since last weekend. Drowning everything in heavy rain (sweating fits or weeing in the forbidden bushes), gusts of wind (the inflated ego probably barely manages to restrain the hot air in his Egozilla head), noise at night due to rain heavily pelting against the windows (whiny fits of the sleep-deprived infant?). cold and lots of other cloud-ish-diarrhoea. Apparently it's not enough to complain on KZread about everything and nothing like a broken record, especially the heat or the 2021 version, the lack there of, no, now a whole country has to suffer in the name of art. Thank you very much. I hereby demand that the Whiner get his act together, because it is SOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOLD! So, Man-Child stop whining (or sweating - however you may interpret it), literally! And congrats on winning the South Championship.

I'm not advocating public urination, but what is it with the jailing of people in the US, like, what good does that do for a misdemeanor like this? Or what is it with ruining people's lives by putting them on a sex offenders list for having a pee in a park for example? Is it customary anywhere else but the US to put people in jail if they're caught doing something illegal, but not serious like violence, sex offence or things like that? What is the jailing for in these "lighter" offences? I know we have drunk tanks in Finland, where police take people immediately, but that's for drunkards who are so toxicated that they cannot take care of themselves, and they are free to leave in the morning without any charges or fines.

Exactly what i want to have an answer to. I mean it's pissing, something natural. Sometimes you just can't hold it anymore. A fine should be enough, when getting caught in a city/city center or publicly in a park. It's not like the whole male population does it 24/7. And for sure it's not a crime in any way. Just something you shouldn't do, if you have a 2nd option. For me as a german, some aspects of life in the USofA seem to be handled kinda medieval.

@@D0MiN0ChAn you're both wrong. There are tons and tons and tons and tons of places to walk in the US. You have around 60 Federal owned parks. Germany has 14. This doesn't include state parks or county parks in the US. I lost weight in the US without trying because I had a state park out my backyard that I walked on everyday. This is in a bigger city also. When I lived I Germany I didn't have this luxury. I had to walk a long time to the head of the trail, drive, or take public transportation. Out in the suburbs you have neighborhoods with walking trails that people use. The major cities in the US you probably has more walkers than the population of major cities in Germany. New York City you are shoulder to shoulder with people when walking. Now you rarely see people in the suburbs walking to the grocery store to buy food, going to Walmart, Macys, or any of the other stores.

@@jessicaely2521 Sorry, I should've been more clear about what I meant. I wasn't talking about dedicated park areas to go strolling in (which you'd still most likely need a car for to get to), I was more talking about how even in the suburbs there oftentimes aren't even any sidewalks for pedestrians (at least not in my experience, but this may of course vary from state to state). Strolling through the neighborhhod just doesn't seem to be a thing in the states as much as it is over here. We have a very particular "Wandern/Spazierengehen" culture over here and we sure love our bicycles (not as much as the Dutch, but close to it); of course we also have much less space here than people in the US, so it's bound to be a bit more tight-knit, but the way the US infrastructure is heavily built around getting from point A to B in a car is just a thing nobody can deny. Where I live, I can stroll through the inner city, get to the grocery district with shops like Aldi, Edeka, REWE etc. or choose to go for a walk in the nearby forest -- all within 10-20 minutes of just walking. There's a whole YT channel (Not Just Bikes) decidated to highlighting bad city design in the US, and it definitely reflects my experiences as both a former exchange student as well a tourist over in the US.

You don't end up in jail so easily in Germany. Even if you have committed a serious crime, you only are put in jail before trial if you can be considered a flight risk or a serious thread to society. The US has this put everyone in jail first approach and then have a hearing and set bail if it is reasonable. That system does basically not exist in Germany. (it is possible for bail to be set in case of a flight risk, but it is very rare.)

We actually did not in the day in open public but at parties we had in friends appartments or outside when it was dark - but it was somewhat part of growing up. Nothing bad in my eyes as long it is not frequently and does not extend to an amount that gets you in the hospital. I am older than 50 - my son and his friends did - and somewhen his children will do, too. I always think it funny if I heard other parents talking that their kids would not do... - when you knew that they even were the worst...

For completeness and clarity, the German "Youth Protection Law" regarding alcohol allows the following: starting at 14 years of age, drinking beer and wine in public is only allowed in the presence of one's parents. It is made clear that parents are expected to be teaching their children to be responsible, even though this idea doesn't always work out. Starting at 16, one is allowed to buy and consume in public one's own beer and wine. Starting at age 18, one is allowed to buy and consume any kind of alcohol.

Also usually keeping calm around them and being attentive can clear most encounters with them without problems. If you're highly allergic to them it's understandable to be afraid of them, though. And if a nest is in a spot where the wasps pose a tangible danger to humans you can usually have an expert remove/resettle them for you.

You don't need a license to own a dog In Germany. You might need a special permit for certain kinds of dogs that fall under the classification of "Kampfhunde" (considered to be dangerous dogs). So this is very rare. The regulations for what considers to be a dangerous dog might vary from Bundesland to Bundesland (federal state). However, you need to pay taxes for your dog (Hundesteuer) and you get a plaque for their collar. Most dog owners in Germany attend "Hundeschule" (training / obedience classes) with their dogs starting when they are puppies. And I think that is a good thing. Drinking in the park, yes, allowed and in Germany you are allowed to drink beer in public already when you are 16. However, there will always be idiots - in every country - who start drinking earlier, hard liquor and will get drunk, consume drugs ... whatever. It's not really an uncommon problem also in the US, just not in a park, maybe. So if the park is the only difference, well ... Public urination ... egads! No matter where, always: "ew"!

It also depends on the Bundesland if you need a license to own a dog. In Niedersachsen people who intend to get a dog, any kind of dog, need to take a class and pass a theoretical test and practical test. The theoretical test needs to be passed before getting the dog and they have until up to a year after getting the dog to pass the practical test. The only exemption is when they can prove they have long time experience with dogs.
