This sounds awesome but as a first year teacher of middle school it’s a little overwhelming to do all of it. I will use the class cash though and check out the website you mentioned. I am enjoying your videos! Thank you!

Before starting w/ the class money, try just implementing new classroom jobs w/ students. You can see all the class jobs I do here - docs.google.com/document/d/1eg6zhQ3s3PNg4i9v3YXUn1MOfb_P7daaMd58g3sXMx4/edit There's a link at the top of that document to a free course I have on how I implement the jobs (without incorporating any of the class cash).

If a pandemic that leads to a massive recession has taught us anything, it’s that we need to be teaching kids about money early. Glad you’re taking it on Zoe! Let me know how I can support you and your students.

First comment! Thank-you for sharing! I've just gotten started with some of your videos but the few I have watched have been rich in content-no pun intended! I've heard of the classroom economy before but never grasped the potential of it. I'm excited to give this test run and I am certain my students will be as well.

Sometimes I watch these video and feel overwhelmed! My students are sooooo difficult right now, and whenever I try something new it blows up in my face. It’s literally day be day survival. I would love to get to the point of doing something like this someday.

Do you discuss coming up with enough classroom jobs? Like on the class economy site they have “watering the plant” as a job… if I have 6 periods watering my plant I’m sure I’ll end up with a dead plant by the end of the week.

Yeah in my course I talk about 26 different classroom jobs. And agreed, you don't need 6 plant waterers. With something like that, I'd probably only have one students from one class do it. One one student from one class do it on Monday and another student in another class do it on Thursday. I do have a free course just about the classroom jobs (not getting into any of the parts where you pay students for jobs) that you can check out at courses.thomgibson.com/courses/essential-student-jobs-for-the-middle-school-classroom-of-tomorrow

How do I access the first four free lessons as mentioned in the video? All I see on the website is to enroll in the course.

Hey Melissa, at the time of recording this, the first few lessons were about which class jobs I have. I now have a separate free course just about the class jobs if you want to check that out - courses.thomgibson.com/courses/essential-student-jobs-for-the-middle-school-classroom-of-tomorrow
