I really enjoy seeing a young man involved in farming. You are right about the sweeps being a little deep. The idea is to be just under the surface and drag out the weeds when the roots are like hairs and will dry out and die very quickly.

THANK YOU....I'm learning how to use farm equipment to help me grow a garden....We bought our farm fully equipped from an elderly couple and it's been about 30 years since I did any farming......I have to buck up and learn fast before the weeds take over my newly plowed and planted garden.......Yeah, I got ahead of myself and planted before I figured it all out....LOL But, thanks to you I have one less piece to figure out!!!

I have an old antique Dearborn chisel plow/field cultivator that I use. It is similar to yours but can adjust the height on it for row crops to keep from breaking the row down. Both are very versatile implements. Thanks for the video!

points are for digging, sweeps are for weeding or for "sweeping" the soil. ...I used one just like that for many years growing a garden. It's called a "spring harrow" the tines flex or spring so you don't put to much pressure on the cultivator or pull it too deep or you will snap the tine

On my senior year of highschool (which is 2 springs away {2014}) I am hoping to rent out a 4 acre field and grow a garden. I gotta plan how to cultivate it and water it and I need to buy a plow next. Lol This spring im gona try and talk to the land owner for me to be able to bushhog the fallow field and just plant green manure crops all that year to get the soil redy.

I need one just like this for my little 1310 Ford.

I knew it could be done. I just got my Sunjoe. I tried it out yesterday for the first time, and I found that I couldn't get it to work going forward. Going backward was easy, but going forward was beyond my capabilities. However, I figured that it was just a matter of learning how to use it just as you have to learn how to use a wheelbarrow or a floor buffing machine. Anyway, after watching this video and others, I'm going to go out again tomorrow and , hopefully, do the job for which I bought it...going forward.

I have to get myself a cultivator to go along with my other implements which I have for my tractor. My rotary tiller does most of the work after the plow have turned the soil. I could use my landscaping rake to clean out the grass cut up by my plow and tiller, but definitely need the cultivator to keep it down during the growing season.

Sidney, I have one just like in the video and it just made big clods in our clay soil. I swapped out the springs for Danish "S" Tines , 200% better, well worth 50 bucks. Second plus with "S" tines is that they are taller meaning you can cultivate longer into the season. I got mine from Agrisupply.

Then your plants are tall enough to block out the sun and cause the weeds not to be able to grow very well.

Gradually, weeds are the most encountered problems by every gardeners. I believe that this 3 point cultivator are a big help indeed to eradicate weeds and lessen the maintenance in terms of gardening.

So you have graduated now. Were you able to rent the land. I hope you get to go to college as well. These are exciting times for you. I hope all is well. God Bless you. Janice
