I like to put my shut off valve on the front side of the filter that away when I winterize I can turn the shut off and let the gas run out of the carburetor and it will use less gas than on the opposite side of the filter.

I will not use a paper fuel filter on a gravity fed carb. If it has a fuel pump on it then yes. The reason is I've put one on an old Deere STX38 and used it, half way through summer it randomly would die, pull the fuel line off, no gas. Put some pressure in the gas tank with my mouth and it flows and stayed flowing. After a few times of this happening I replaced the paper filter with a screen type pancake filter, no problems again. That is what I experienced anyway.

Nice to see you back in the saddle again as Roy Rogers would say. Very nice job with good tip on the angle of the fuel filter but have you ever had a fuel starve problem with the paper fuel filters on engines without a fuel pump (gravity feed)?

Hey Wayne! I've never had an issue with the paper fuel filters myself but most of what I work on is sold shortly after I get done with it. You're the second one to ask me about this so I'll have to assume this is something I should think about next time I place an order for filters. And... This is about the 30th video I have posted in the past 60 days. So as Roy Rogers would say... Until we meet again! ;-)

On gravity fed engines we normally put the 150 micron white plastic (supposedly for fuel pump operated) or the 75 micron red plastic (for gravity fed) fuel filters. Never had an issue using the white plastic but have issues on equipment using paper filters without the fuel pump. Once you get the fuel filter full of fuel it runs fine but we have seen that fuel disappear creating rough running engines, simple fix swap out fuel filter normally fixes the issue. So we should see you more regularly cause the last one was 4 months ago!
