3 Old Fashioned Appetizers Ready in 30 Minutes

3 Old Fashioned Appetizers in 30 Minutes
In years gone by we used to share our recipes with friends and neighbors but today many of us look for recipes on the internet. We are missing the human connection when we do that. I was so happy to bump in to Lil Robison in the grocery store and she shared a couple of quick delicious old-fashioned appetizers with me. I have added one of my own.
Ham, Cream Cheese Spread
1 can flaked ham
1 small tub of Herb and Garlic Spreadable Cream Cheese
3 green onions chopped.
Mix these all together and serve on crackers
Blue Cheese, Garlic Pull Apart Biscuits
1 package of pre made biscuits or use the recipe linked below
¼ cup butter melted
2 oz blue cheese or any melty cheese you prefer
1 clover of garlic minced fine
Melt the butter in a small baking dish and add the minced garlic. Open the tin of biscuits and quarter them. Add them to the bottom of the pan and then add the crumbled blue cheese over the biscuits. Cook according to package directions. I cooked them at 375 degrees for 18 minutes.
Salami Chips
Place a single layer of salami on a parchment paper lined baking sheet into the same 375-degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes until the chips are crispy. Remove from the oven to kitchen paper to drain off some of the fat and then allow to cool. You can use these simply as chips or as a dipper.

Another that a chef friend of mine makes.Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap.Cover with a rectangle of smoked salmon. Spread a layer of cream cheese mixed with finely chopped shallots and fresh dill.Roll up jellyroll style and freeze. Before serving remove from freezer and stice thin rounds and serve on bagel slices cut into small diagonal rounds.decorate with a small feather of fresh dill and 3 capers.(a small amount of cream cheese on the bagel will stabilize the presentation) Your guests will be suitably impressed. Delicious !

My mom had an amazing go to recipie that is super easy. Mix 1 cup mayo with, 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese (green can type works or fancy type) and 1 cup green onion chopped. spread mixture on individual sliced sourdough baguette pieces (or bigger bread slices cut smaller). Put on cookie sheet, Bake in oven 375 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes (until golden and bubbley). We called them onion breads. Super yummy and easy!

Terri, It truly is tragic! I found out recently that my step mother, who outlived my dad by 18 years, is in hospice in the US. It saddens me to think I haven't even seen her in the past 15 years. And being separated from family for the past 3 years with covid certainly hasn't helped. Its a blessing to have these old recipes where we can recall loved ones as cook. Take care, ❤

Boursin cheese pucks would be a great sub for the blue cheese. They have several flavors and I think they would crumble well for the prep (and I am not a big fan of blue cheese). colleen, I have used leftover ham from holidays, pulsed in my food chopper/processer, add sweet pickle relish and mayo or cream cheese. DONE ! ! ! It is very simple to make your own flavored cream cheese. Use jam/jelly for a fruit flavor, or garlic & herbs for a delicious spread or topping for baked potatoes. This can save a lot of money too. Enjoy. Keep sharing recipes.

Crockpot mushrooms are always a winner. This recipe doubled works well for a 5-6qt crockpot. 1lb mushrooms, 1 packet of dry ranch dressing, 1 stick of butter. Melt butter, add dressing. Put cleaned mushrooms in crockpot, pour butter-dressing over. Cook on high for 2 hours; stir once or twice. Can cook on low for 4 hours.

I know this show is a year old but I have a recipe you might not have. 1 can cream of mushroom soup into a bowl. Add 1 large (8 oz. or so) jar chopped dried beef, 2 pkg. softened cream cheese, and 1 bunch chopped green onions. Mix and leave overnight. Serve with thin garlic toast or cocktail rye. To serve on a buffet: top slices with spread, thin slice of cucumber and a sprinkle of dill.

I will definitely have to try these. I knew a lady that had her own catering business, and she had a recipe that I just love. The ingredients are captain wafers, prosciutto or thinly sliced bacon and parmesan cheese. I always use bacon as I can't afford the other one. Stretch the bacon length wise and cut in half, then wrap a piece around the middle of a captain wafer (it will look like a bowtie), bake at 350 degrees F until the cracker starts to brown and bacon is done, immediately remove from the oven and sprinkle the parmesan cheese on top (as much as you like), eat while warm.

I get asked to make water chestnuts wrapped in bacon. 1 can of sliced water chestnuts , drained 1pack of bacon Grated Parmesan 350-375 degree oven Place water chestnuts in a small bowl, cover with Soy sauce. Cover and leave on counter for 30 minutes. Open bacon and cut twice to make the bacon in thirds. Take a water chestnut and wrap with a piece of bacon. Place on a foil lined cookie sheet, seam side down. Place all the wrapped chestnuts on the cookie sheet, bake until bacon is done. Place them in a crockpot on lowe and put grated Parmesan cheese over all of them . They will disappear!

My best chicken salad recipe: 1 cup of leftover rotisserie chicken diced, 1/2 cup fresh oregano diced small (yes it must be fresh, dried just won't do), and just enough mayonnaise to tie it all together. The fresh oregano adds a lemony pop and the chicken is already seasoned so no need to add salt and pepper.

You can use as a dip with corn chips, potato chips, vegetables, pretzels or even spread on the bun of your grilled hamburger. I have a appetizer recipe that was passed down to me. It’s called a taco dip. You can either use one pack of cream cheese, one can of Hormel chili with beans and one bag of mild cheddar cheese first of all you melt the cream cheese in the microwave for a few minutes and pad it down, then you add the Hormel chili on top of that and then you put the cheese on top and put it back into microwave until it’s melted. It’s fast recipe and I found it. Lots of people love it.

One thing I do is a smoke salmon asparagus roll up. All you need are tortillas, smoked salmon, cream cheese I use spreadable either plain or chive and asparagus either blanched or raw. Prep by spreading the tortillas with cream cheese, layer smoked salmon then place the asparagus 1 or 2 spears at one edge, roll up. Slice in about 1/2 to 1 inch pieces. You can wrap them in plastic wrap and chill if you make them ahead. Feel free to try ham, chicken, add some red pepper pieces for colour and flavour. None dairy cream cheese also works. Enjoy. Also makes for a nice light lunch.

cut up tomatoes, crushed saltines, and mayo. just enough to make it the consistency you like. personally i dice the tomatoes small , large pieces of the saltines and enough to mayo to make it not soggy but moistened.. put a ham slices in a muffin tin add an egg to each cup with the ham slice and I simply add cheese but you could add what you like. bake at 350f until the egg is done about 5 minutes. mix a block of cream cheese with sliced green olives, I use a lot of olives use as a dip or spread

Have always made the cream cheese spread using canned salmon. Packed it into a little brown glazed pottery jar (you used to see them in stores packed with a certain kind of cheese spread; hard to find them now). My daughter & I fill & pass them back n forth around the Holidays. Delicious! Great spread on party rye bread topped with thinly sliced red onions. We call it: Poor man's lox! (Mix in few drops smoke flavoring=Poor man's smoked salmon) Makes a really good simple appetizer for Holidays.
