    This is sound advice in my opinion. I remember having to add 2 washers per bolt on a valve cover in a Suzuki Forenza to squeeze it down, it stopped the oil from weeping around the edges. The OEM bolts were bottoming out, it was poor design from the factory. A Suzuki guru informed us on the forums, only reason I knew about it.

    Regarding the 205 reseal, I can totally see why a mechanic would be against that. He makes money by replacing parts and charging labor. Pouring a bottle of that stuff in and fixing the problem for 2 years 4 years is no benefit to him but the person who owns the car might not have to do that $2000 repair of the rear main seal where you take the engine out and disconnect the transmission to replace the $10 seal that failed.

    I too am a mechanic with over 32 years of experience. It's not the technician trying to gouge you. It's the service writer. Also various things can cause main seals to leak. Bad thrust bearings, harmonic balancer has gone awry, drive train vibrations transferred into the crankshaft via a manual transmission, cracked or broken flexplate, improper or unbalanced torque converter. Basically anything that induces a vibration into the crankshaft can cause a seal to leak. Most mechanics would rather pull a tooth out with most mechanics would rather pull pull their own tooth out then replace a crank seal. It is a giant pain in the ass and very dirty. I'm not saying it's impossible I just saying it's involved. This is my opinion nothing more nothing less...

    great honest presentation .... I understand the 'do it right' option, but many of us have a vehicle on its last legs that can't justify an expensive repair. I get free oil changes on my car from the dealer and last year the dealer pushed for 1500 misc repairs for my v6 Rav4 which I loved and planned on keeping. Literally two months later someone smashed into it totally the car. Thankfully I didn't go ahead with the repairs...

    AT-205 will work on seals that have gotten hard over the years but if you have a nicked or torn seal, it won’t help. It is one product that try’s to do what it says it will do, no scam. Go get a price on replacing your rear crankshaft seal and I think you may try a bottle.

    Absolutely correct, it will not fix or seal damaged gaskets or seals. The chemical reaction between the materials causes the old gasket or seal to swell a little and thus sealing or stopping some small leaks permanently.

While checking my oil, i notice no loss. Assume it was leaking out the head gaskets or dripping in from the valve seals in small amounts. now nothing....so Yes this product is a mechanics savor.

    Wrong about that Head Gasket comment. Blew a gasket In. 2005 Ford explorer with a 4.0 Added a 70 dollar (at the time) bottle of blue devil and drove another 6 30k miles when I decided to flush my cooling system. Completely forgot about the head gasket issue. It immediately started smoking again..i went and got another bottle of blue devil and drove another 33k miles before trading it in with it still running like a top. I had my doubts at first...but blue devil saved the day! Nothing but props for that heavenly devil. :)

    ATP worked for me. Both of my Hondas had very small oil leaks. I put 100ml in at each oil change and never had a leak since. Instructions were about 180ml for my engines, but I only put 100ml just to try it out at first and it works. Although I will replace both vvt gaskets soon since that is where the leak is on both cars. Too bad I can't find ATP anymore, but I can find the Blue Devil stuff. Might have to try it.

    Sorry but I used power restore and it worked but after a week I started to burn oil. In 2 weeks it was burning a full quart. Not knowing it was the power restore that did this damage about a year later I bought a Bronco with a 351 Cleveland fully rebuilt. So clean you could eat off it. After one year and a half notice leaking oil from seal. So I put power restore in it. Of course it , no leak anywhere. However in a month it started to burn a quart every week. That's my experience with power restore and never will I use it. What's safe and the very best that I use and happy with is ATP 205 reseal! The best!

    Catching the oil leak early is very important as it will work better. I believe AT 205 reseal would be all you need some cases. Reason why is if you install a rack and pinion steering system and you have an older car that steering system could have sat in the products warehouse for many many years that the rubber seals inside could have dried out over time sitting in the heat etc. Same with real main seals. If the system starts to leak prematurely in months or in just a couple years the problem could be that the oil seals just need to be rejuvenated from sitting in the heat for so long, which AT 205 reseal would solve the issue.

    For head gasket problems, particularly if you just need to get a few thousand more miles out of the engine until you can afford a head gasket job or get rid of the vehicle, get your torque specs and tightening pattern and procedure for replacing a head online or from a manual (available at many public libraries) then on a cold engine slightly loosen every head bolt, and using an accurate torque wrench, then re-torque the head to factory specs in the proper pattern without ever removing the head or gasket. Then change the oil. I drained the coolant before doing the job, then added a coolant stop leak to the new coolant as insurance, but that would be up to you because these products can cause over-heating problems. After getting a $2,000 estimate to replace a head gasket on an old BMW, I simply bought a new torque wrench, and followed the procedure I just described. That got the car through a long, hot southern summer with no problems, then I sold it, after telling the buyer about the problem and my fix, and the estimate I had gotten for a conventional repair job. This procedure will not work with heads attached with torque-to-yield bolts, unless you removed and discarded all of the old bolts and used all new ones and followed the factory procedure for tightening these type of bolts to factory specifications; then it might work, but you would be doing it at your own risk, and could easily damage an expensive engine if the head moved at all when you took the bolts out, especially if you had not drained the coolant first. This procedure doesn’t fix blown gaskets, but can help get you a few more miles if all you need is a little tightening up of older parts.

    I tried the "Engine Restorer and Lubricant" in an old 2001 Prelude once. Caused my oil light to come on. I've never done an oil change so fast in my entire life. Went from a dead sleep, the morning after trying the product (it was at night), to having the oil changed completely in about 15 minutes. I tried a couple bottles of Blue Devil in the same Prelude, and it did help slow down a pretty big leak. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough, as I wound up just wasting the money to have the leak fixed by a trusted mechanic. I say it was a waste because the car, ultimately, had way more issues than I was led to believe when I bought it. I no longer have it as a result. I've also tried Blue Devil in my 2002 Mazda MPV, which has a small oil leak, but is manageable right now. Unfortunately, I haven't noticed a difference. So I went ahead and tried AT-205 to see if it will make a difference before I buckle and try to have this leak fixed properly. Might be awhile before I replace this vehicle, so I have to do what I can to keep her going as long as possible (which she is doing phenomenal at). Hopefully this works out, and is able to buy me some more time before I need to replace or fix her. EDIT: As an added note, I use the MPV to do food delivery with GrubHub during my weekends for extra cash. She is a money maker, so that's one of the reasons why I'm trying to keep her around and healthy as long as possible. The good part of this is that I put the in the 205 in between deliveries earlier today, so it's gotten about 4 hours and several miles to move around the engine. I should know pretty soon whether or not this had any positive affect.

    Great video you addressed many of my questions and suspicions. Now for a review. There are two concerns, what is absolute best for, 1. Seal and gasket restore oil treatment. 2. Which is absolute best for engine surface friction protection pistons valves cams ect..... I was using lucas oil stabilizer but it changed my viscosity to heavy and my valves started pinging to much. My 3.7 l i5 cylinder GM calls for 5-30, I have 160k so I put 10-30 for extra protection it seems to flow fine. I was using amsoil. I think it is good, but I went back to Castrol 10 30 conventional oil I have used for 40 years, I have used non synthetic oil my whole life it has worked good. I thought maybe to much detergent in synthetic oils. Not sure. 10 30 Castrol convention I thought may coat my seals and gaskets wishful thinking I'm sure.

    I have a Ford Duratec DOHC V-6 that has a valve cover gasket leak and 2 spark plug wells have oil in them. You obviously never changed the Valve covers on this engine. Far from easy and I've worked on A LOT of cars. Bank 1 you can't even see against the firewall. This Ford has 225k miles and although it's in great condition cosmetically I'd rather not do this job. Intake removal, harnesses all over the place and then the two valve covers. A big job. Perhaps I'll try the AT 205. If this were a new car I wouldn't even consider it but considering this car is 16 years old with high miles it's worth a try. Thoughts??

  • @Engineerboy100

    @Engineerboy100

    3 жыл бұрын

    I've worked on many different models of cars over the years Fords included. AT-205 might work, but personally I doubt it on a car that old with that many miles. I would change the gasket. A valve cover gasket is on the upside of the engine and will only get a splash of oil, not ideal. I know its a big job, but that's just me, I would change the gasket.

  • @RickyPisano

    @RickyPisano

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Engineerboy100 If I take that dive I'll change them both and also the intake manifold gaskets, PCV, etc. The car never missed an oil change and was maintained perfectly. Runs like new. This all started with a lean condition on bank 1 and a misfire code on bank 2. I checked the obvious, vacuum lines, cleaned the MAF, changed my air filter. The check engine light went off then came back about 10 days later. I checked the coil packs on Bank 2 to see if they were firing and they were. So I'm thinking fouled plugs because of the oil in plug wells on cylinders 4 and 5 Bank 2. Cylinder 6 was clean. I tightened the valve cover just a bit, cleaned out the oil and now I'm gonna change the plugs in those 2 cylinders and check 6. If that plug looks OK I'll see if that does it. Maybe I'll get lucky. Bank 1 valve cover might not even be leaking. After I try that if the LTFT/STFT readings return to normal and the misfire is gone I'll leave it at that. Then, if it comes back I'll take the intake off, both valve covers and change all the gaskets, plugs, PCV, and coil packs. Check the cam retainers and whatever else I can't reach when it's buttoned back up. I don't want to have to do this job twice for an intake vacuum leak or Bank 1 going south 3 months later. Like I said, if the car was beat on or never maintained I might have a different approach but this 15 year old Ford 500 Limited looks like new. Almost mint. So I'll do what I can to keep it. The best used car I ever owned and the previous owners were an older couple who kept all the documentation on the maintenance. I even talked to the mechanic that did all the work on it over the years and he told me the car was strong. Now, I miss my garage and all my old tools. If I still had them this would have been done already. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it man.

    Note: AT-205 RE-SEAL, do NOT give it 5 hours. Drive it immediately. Ideally you'd pour it in while it's running. This will melt paint off your oil pan (if you have a painted oil pan, curse the OEMs who do) if you don't mix it into your oil by running your engine, then it will clog the oil pickup screen and kill your motor by reducing your oil pressure to 0

  • @Engineerboy100

    @Engineerboy100

    4 жыл бұрын

    Well no, .... and possibly yes. It depends of the condition of the seals/o-rings and the nature of the leak. If the material of the seal was in fairly good condition originally and the chemical was able to swell it up enough to make a good seal, the leak should be fixed. If the sealing material was very dry, old and or cracked or the mating surface was damaged and the leak barely stopped or only slowed, you may need to use the chemical again or you may need to repair the damage and replace the seal or o-ring. There is no one answer.

If you're unsure, just add one bottle, drive it about 200 miles, if the leak stops you're good, if not you have a leak that needs to be repaired.

    If your valve seals are not too far gone, AT-205 can help a little but the valve seals will sometimes just wear more .... If you're about to replace the valve seals anyway you might try '205, but if you just want more time, try a heavier weight oil like 20w-50 mixed with your regular weight oil. AT-205 could make valve seals worse as it reacts with the seal and melts the seal a little and causes it to swell, but if the seal is deteriorating, I could cause more to wear away ... Try it and see... if it works, great, if it gets worse, change the seals.
