Thank you for pointing out that grammar come after listening and speaking, i agree. I have no clue about rules and tenses or moods of english, but you wouldn't know that by talking to me. Consuming content and then investigating that content has helped my understanding spoken Spanish although I continue to struggle with speed and accents of many native speakers. Also, after many years of trying to teach myself Spanish, i continue to struggle with my own pronunciation and speed when speaking Spanish. Thank you again for the well crafted video.

You are completely right but...the most difficult thing is, the different accents in different regions. I lived in Colombia, totaly different words, I ve met my partner from Venezuela, his language again was different. Now we live in Asturias, north of Spain, and again they use other words than the Spanish they speak fot example on television. That's the worst thing, they understand me, but I don't understand them (completely)

Lo que dijiste tiene sentido! Puedo hablar tres idiomas y cada idioma tiene reglas que no tiene sentido a veces. Español es mi cuarto idioma y para entender mejor español tengo que olvidar reglas de otros idiomas... Es difícil pero muy divertido!

@@Spanishacks I’m learning Spanish through KZread videos and I know a lot of Spanish vocabulary.unfortunately I’m lacking the ability to communicate in Spanish due to the fact that I’m not practicing Spanish with native people. I can read and write Spanish to some extent but I’m afraid to communicate in the language as I don’t want to sound like moron lol..Espero algún día hablar español con fluidez.

I have had conversation classes on italki that have been super helpful. I find that, for me, comprehensible input is great, but until I try to speak what I’ve learned, it’s pointless.

I get overwhelmed by trying to learn a new Spanish word or phrase online, only to be told that's only certain Spanish-speaking countries use that word or phrase. It feels like most lessons are for either Spain or Mexico and if you're talking with someone from another Spanish-speaking country, you're on your own. I've had to learn to just mimic what I hear people saying. If they hear themselves in you, they are happy and say you speak Spanish very well. When I studied German, I always knew there was "High German", "Low German", "Swiss German", and other dialects, but there are like, what, 22 Spanish-speaking countries that make their own rules!?!?!? Eso es demasiamo para mi. 😢

I’m sorry to say that I cannot agree with this completely. In my opinion, adults learn languages somewhat differently from children. And as for me, learning English as a child included learning grammar. Indeed, family members often corrected me when I spoke English improperly. Then in school, we spent many hours learning English grammar. This improved my speaking and writing English. It also helped me when I studied French and Latin in high school and college. And now when learning Spanish, I strive to understand the grammar when I am reading it. I don’t think I could learn Spanish without mastering the grammar. That said, I admit that I never became fluent in speaking French or understanding it when spoken despite 6 years of formal study and being able to read it quite well. So I think we must combine grammar with listening comprehension and speaking practice. That’s what I’m trying to do now with Spanish. This approach may be harder and more time consuming but it is the only way I can learn as an adult. In other words, I think the right approach for me is both/and, not either/or. Time will tell if I succeed.

@@robkeyes8654 I totally understand what you mean. Makes sense and that’s what I mentioned in the video. As children we don’t learn the grammar until we go to school. Learning the grammar in school when we’re already fluent (making a lot of mistakes) help us speak Spanish properly. My point in the video is just the timing. Grammar comes after you’re fluent. Hopefully that makes sense. Best regards my friend 😊

Hola! Encontre tu canal hoy, y me gusta mucho.

You need grammar, and a lot of it, to make any sense of a second language and to be able to use it, understand it and speak it. The only reason you don't need grammar for your native language is because you were exposed to your native language 24/7 non-stop year after year after year. Just hoping you will pick up the second language the same way, the "natural" way, is naive and foolish. Grammar is a short cut to helping you learn a second, third, fourth language.
