3 Mistakes All Beginner Dancers Make
An Easy Way for Beginners to Start Learning Dance! → bit.ly/3MISTAKES
Hey Steezy Nation,
Ever regret some choices you made at the beginning of your dance journey? Us too. Here are the 3 most common mistakes we find all beginner dancers make:
1. Not taking the initiative.
2. Being a fan, and not a student. (When will you learn Earney boy?)
3. Not building a foundation.
If you need help building foundations, try STEEZY Studio! Click here for a FREE 7-day trial → bit.ly/MISTAKE-FREE-DANCING

Don't worry, we all make mistakes!
Here are 10 easy tips to avoid making more:
1. Always warm up before you dance, and stretch after
2. Support other dancers.
3. Class is about learning, not the video.
4. No one cares if you mess up, only you do (and maybe Clay.)
5. Be mindful during class.
6. Don’t go to an all-you-can-eat buffet before dancing.
7. Subscribe to STEEZY's KZread channel!
8. Practice full out.
9. Invest in a good water bottle (save money AND the Earth!)
10. Get a backpack/duffel bag that's just for your dance stuff.
Let us know in the comments what YOUR beginner dance tips are.
We always want to provide better dance tips and knowledge for you, so feel free to leave a comment with topics you'd like to see us cover.

Humans are more used to looking in the mirror, but mirrors reverse the image, so when you look at a video/photo of yourself, although you don't notice it, it seems weirdly off, because the picture isn't reversed. And also because phones slightly warp their images to fit the screen.

BEND YOUR KNEES. This helps you be lighter on your feet, also be on the balls of your feet sometimes for better bounce. Bending your knees and being on the balls of your feet when moving acts like a spring so you actually use less momentum moving to the next step. Let gravity do the rest when you relax your limbs :)

I’m a beginner(ish) dancer and my tip is: it’s okay to not nail something first try, or even within a year. I’ve been teaching myself how to dance since august, and after a few months I just has to take a step back and say “okay I suck. But I’ll get better if I keep at it” and I’ve improved massively

When I was a child, I was dancing Hip Hop and Ballett and I thought, I was relatively good (especially in Hip Hop) but now, when I started doing especially Kpop Dance Covers but also dancing in general again, my dance is so messy and doesn't look good at all. But because I have my little dance group, I can't just not do all those difficut dance covers, even though my foundation is not built yet. I think the way I'm dancing now is not really improving or benefitting my dance that well. Maybe I should start implementing dancing and building a dance foundation in my day routine in general and not only trying to memorize choreos? Well, we'll see how that goes, but good video :)

I am an active dancer and have been one for the past 2 years, I have practices 5 or 6 times a week with my team, but even with all that training and performing on a monthly basis, I have this one problem I just don't know how to fix. Whenever we dance to maybe 1 choreography FULL out, or even 2 or 3 choreos at once (for example if we are at a party) I get so nauseous and sick, I literally feel my gagging reflex working, as if I'm gonna puke. I need a 10 minute break at least after that because I have a feeling I will actually pass out. I know that's the sign of overworking yourself but I overwork myself on a daily with all those practices.. I really don't know what should I do, maybe go to the gym to improve my physical strength?

  • @doraaaa0613

this is probably a stamina issue, right? but also are you eating healthy? maybe start working out! do cardio and strength training at least 3 times a week to develop muscle and improve your stamina. another problem might be your diet? just eat as clean as you can and get as much nutrition as possible. ofc you don't have to completely change your entire diet, just make healthier choices! if you've been dancing for 2 years, in case exercise and a healthy diet isn't solving the problem, it's better to check w a health professional who might be able to solve it for you ^_^ i do think this is just a stamina issue though. im sure exercising more and eating well will help you!

i may be wrong but it seems to me that you forget to breathe steadily. try watching your breathing while you dance, my choreographer told me that is a very common problem among beginners and professional dancers as well and that’s the reason they get sick so fast

mingi'sfixon read your comment and saw that you work yourself out a lot every day so i think lack of stamina is not your case. If breathing isn't either, check with your doctor as nausea might suggest cardiovascular problems. I have cardiovascular problems myself and nausea is one of the main symptoms. Don't mean to scare you but it can become serious so maybe you should check that out. Best of luck!

  • @withlovee_MJ

something that has helped me a lot is to put the song in slower tempo to practice every single move, and I increase the speed as I'm doing the steps in the right way. If i see I still mess up in some parts, I go back and practise until I have it. It's pretty hard when a choreo is too fast and it has too many steps, but just as this video says: don't try to make the hard moves if you don't have a good foundation first, and I think that applies also when learning x choreography, because if you don't learn the steps properly first , you might cut moves later or skip a part of it, so this is my recommendation for you. I hope I helped somehow :) and keep it up!

@@silvia7058 if you are stiff try stretching to build flexibility and also just practice practice practice. Practice flowy movements and practice without music in front of a mirror. Take it slow at first and really check your technique then once you get confident do it faster and faster. If your movements cut out during a song and don't flow very well try dragging them out, exaggerate, be big. Again try it in front of a mirror without music and doing it slower than what the actual counts are to exaggerate. Then do it to the actual counts and you will find it much easier. Then try again to the music. Idk if this makes sense, I'm not good at explaining things... But I hope this helped 💞💞💞

I also had that problem and realized it's because I tend to rush things, so I purposefully wait almost a beat late (not really but in my mind) before I go to the next move. So mentally think to not go to the next move until the last second. This also helps kind of have a snap motion, like HIT ... slooow. Better to be one beat behind than ahead is what I found :) Focus on the feeling of each move. Cutting moves is due to anticipation, slow down.

My tip is try your best not to stress up before battles or plan out everything you're gonna do, that's what I did and the only time I win battles is when I get up there and just dance with the music and relax

This is literally the best advise anyone's given me lol. I have a habit of getting carried away watching the dance videos instead of actually DOING them because GUYS I CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF THEM, SKZ ARE AMAZING but now I am so ignoring their handsome facues from now on. 😝 Take that Felix. Your not as distracting as you think you are. (That's a massive lie. He is.) Question: How can I improve my sharpness and smoothness? Does it just take time? Is there a video on that? And how about breathing control? Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

While I do see how it might be annoying when people comment, "song name" multiple times on dance videos and how they should be able to take action to look up the songs themselves, I do think it is important for those who release dance videos (or any videos) to give credit to the artist of the music that they are dancing to. That being said, I really love your channel and your videos!
