@@jesseholthaus8357 Actually, you are wrong. The College of Cardinals has the authority to correct a pontiff, if/when the pontiff is speaking or instructing in a way that calls into question the authentic teaching of the deposit of faith held consistent by the magisterium.

@@VeniVidiVici456 The pope cannot err when teaching infallibly from the chair. If he’s teaching informally something heretical, it would be a surprise. I suppose they could correct him, but so could anyone.

Our Lord Jesus Christ ordained S. Peter to put his last seat in Rome (he preached and established episcopal seats at the middle east too) so he can judge the world the way pagan romans were somewhat successful in it (the Roman Empire lasted for centuries with a vast jurisdiction). Our Lord is God and know as no one about the psychology of nations and well disposed a true Judge of Nations way before, unlike those fake UN lobbies. The real Roman Empire, the spiritual one, has not ended, because it was founded in the person of the Prince of the Apostles to be exercised in Rome. May he be smaller and less impactful organizationally, more humble and Christlike, following the words of our Lord recorded in Matthew 20, "25 But Jesus summoned them and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt. 26 But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; 27 whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave." In this way, he will not be seen as a ruler, but the chief servant of the church, welcomed by all expressions of the body of Christ. May he and all who lead become brighter lights for their smallness and love instead of for their rule and authority.

Pope Francis requested to nake homily 8 minutes. But we plea to make it even longer. Tell the priest to make lively and make their homily meaningful that people will not be bored. It does not depend upon the lenght but it depends upon the way priests do the homily. Priest need to be trained enough on how to do it well.

It’s a shame for the pope to allow political flags and views to taint the church and dogma.

unity isn't possible until there is full doctrinal unity. Friendly relations isn't enough... the church isn't united unless it is One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. As long as the other churches don't believe in what the Catholic church believes, they can't come back into full communion. And unfortunately there is almost no sign that any of these churches are willing to do that, instead many of them look like they are becoming even more distant in doctrine, even as they get closer in friendship.

One Protestant’s reaction: If a new council isn’t called to formally reverse some of the obvious mistakes of previous councils (ie papal infallibility) or in other words formally and officially acknowledge that they made mistakes, then ecumenically speaking, this is all smoke and mirrors. I feel for Pope Francis I really do. On some issues, he has excellent instincts but is constrained by the erroneous but unfortunately binding conclusions of previous councils. His room for maneuverability is constricted. He can’t admit that any council ever erred and then officially rectify that with a new council. You would then have councils contradicting each other and this has been declared impossible. Good luck getting out of that maze.

When an ecumenical council is promulgated, that is a definitive act of the pope in union with all of the bishops and it’s promulgated to the universal church. That’s what you can’t reject. The doctrine does not claim that every aspect of every ecumenical council is dogmatic, but that every aspect of an ecumenical council is free of errors or impeccable. . It is not enough to be baptized as a Catholic, or to say you are a Catholic - you’ve got to believe as the church teaches you to believe. If you don’t, then you are, by definition, a heretic. It doesn’t mean you are bad or evil or should be burned at the stake (well, not these days, anyway), but it does mean you’re not in step with the established order.
